GRASS VALLEY---Mr. Bonanza, prize pony of the
Bonanza Celebration over
the Fourth of July holiday,
recently returned from a triponies in the United States.
In fact, the lucky winner
of Mr. B come July 4 will
. probably find it-to be one
tired animal,
In the company of chaperones Mrs. Larry Sheahan
and Mrs. Bob Helena, Mr. B

all. Such a pretty queen,
Los Angeles, Both were members of the 1959 Pan
American U.S. team andthe
1960 U.S. Olympic team.
Hartman is known as one of
the best sprinters in the
nation. He will try his luck
at the more grueling hilly
event in Nevada City. In
1953 he was the national
junior champion. On several
occasionshe has narrowly
missed the national championship, often due to spills.
His specialty is riding the
steeply banked velodrome
events, but he is also stong
on the longer road races and
has many such victories.
Tetzlaff is probably the
best road rider in the U.S. ,
according toAllert. Asa
result, he is being installed
as favorite to capture the
local race. He'll wear No.
2, so watch him.
He also has been runner
up in national championships
and isa-winner of other road
races. He has competed in
the world championships,
too.
Both of these riders have
race victories tooynumerous
too list.
Meanwhile, twoother entries can be expected to give
battle for the top prizes.

years of racingin Italy, passedupthe Somerville, N.J.,

local eventifhecan. Earlier
in the yéar, Mahon visited
Nevada City and said the
course was to his liking. He
termed it the greatest
criterion in North America,
and saidit was meant for his
type of riding.
As a warmup for Sunday
afternoon's race, Mahon of

from the state; Murray Galbreath, skating instructor,
hockey instructor, and producer of extravaganzas; Bill
Berth, director of Blythe
Arena and a director of the

Everywhere Bonanza literature, posters, hats, vests
and armbands were passed
out, Pony tickets, too,
Meanwhile Mr, B enjoyed
the picture taking. Lots-of
pretty girls there, too,
Seems they are preparing to
officially open Squaw Valley
June 16, and will have the
Blythe Arena opening June 23
with a two-day benefit to
help train future Olympic
skating stars.
And guess who'll be one of
the benefit stars? Out Mr. B,
of course.
Not only that, but Mr. B
willbe in Nevada City Sunday for the bike race. No,
he'snot entered in the event
->-just a spectator.
He'll also be at the Cherry
Festival in North San Juan
June 25.
And Mr. Bwill be on hand
at three open air Bonanza
dances set June 17 and 24 and
July 1. The dances will begin at 8 and end at ll p.m,
those nights at the Safeway
parking lot in Grass Valley.
Music by the Jeff Blain Combo, and free. Refreshments
by auxiliary fire department
crews, but not free,
So far, Mr. B has 5300
tickets distributed where the
public has the opportunity to
put this pony to pasture for
the summer. Perhaps by
winter he will have recov-.
ered enough to put to work,
or play.
And if Mr. B has his way:
pretty girls preferred.
