Page 4..Wednesday, June 7, 1961..Nevada County NUGGET Bicycle Race (Continued from Page 1) fornia Best All-Around event last month. Also entered is 16-yearold Bob Parson, La Canada, Calif. Eligible for entry in the junior 8 mile event by age, Parson will instead enter the senior 45 mile race. Last month he placed second in a 48 mile Berkeley Hills event, and his experience there may stand him in good stead on the Sierra hills of Nevada City. "Itisnot often a 16-yearold is good enough to enter senior events and walk off with the prizes, " Allert said. Nearly 20 riders are expected in the 8 mile Junior event which will precede the Senior race, At least seven of those riders will check in from Portland, Ore, Both races will follow a decorated bicycle parade down Broad Street in Nevada City. The parade will head down Broad at 12:30 p.m., to be followed by the races as soon as the track is Cleared, Prizes, totaling $1000 will be given out to racers and decorated bide winners immediately following the race, Out oftown riders who are staying o\weright Saturday will: be bedded down in the Veterans Memorial building, aswell as Seaman Lodge in Pioneer Park.\ The Veterans building will serve as race headquarters. : Prizes to be given in the race are on display in Alpha's Nevada City store, and at SPD. NY Nevada City Chamber of Commerce President Dean Thompson announced late the nifty A-Hi yesterday that the race will be filmed by a KCRA tele-" vision crew, and predicted a crowd of more than 500 will attend, Among those who will attend the race from out of town will be some 50 or more foreign students who will be spending the weekend with localresidents. Most of them are students at the Davis campus of the University of California. e Logging (Continued from Page 1) but there is still a long way to go," Jones said. Nelson said all the operators had followed illegal cutting and logging practices and failedto fall snags. All but one failed to comply with minimum soil erosion requirements. One of the firms failed to put in waterbreaks to divert runoffs on several steep skid trails with the result that gullies sixto eight feet deep were formed which dumped considerable dirt and debris into the streams. Nugget or phone 273-6949, . Is Backed SACRAMENTO--The Astutional amendment, authored by Assemblyman Paul J. Lunardi, which would prevent tax increases from presuring the farmer to sell his land for subdivisions. The vote, almost unanimously in favor,. sends the measure to the Senate Committee on Revenue and Taxation. Lunardi explained that the problem liesin farmland locatednearcities being assessed and taxed as potential subdivision land. The farmer is forced to sell his land because he does not make enough from crops to pay the taxes, Under the Lunardi proposed its value.as crop growing land instead of potential subdivision property. . County boards of supervisors would adopt ordinances making the law effective in their respective counties, under provisions of the measure. Should the farmer sell his property for subdivision land while enjoying the benefits . of farmland assessment, he would have to pay back taxes, under the amendment. Assemblyman Lunardi said he plansto introduce a resolution asking for an interim study of the mechanics of carrying out the proposed plan. © For Sale by Owner. New homenear completion .
