This is the second year for the program in Nevada County, The program runs for six weeks from June 27 through August 5. Children whowill enter school for the first tinie this coming -September and who come from families of low incomes are eligible. The program is designed to provide equal opportunity for these children ascompared to those students who come from more fortunate environments, A major change from last years Program is that much of the personnel working in the program
must come from low income families. Applications are now being taken for these positions as well as for children enrolling in the program. Nevada City Gets $3,657 From Liquor License Fees The city of Nevada City has received $3, 657 as its six-month share of the special fees paid by holders of alcoholic beverage licenses. The payment was made by the state's department of alcoholic beverage control which allocates 90% of all license fee money back to individual cities and counties where it is used to offset the costs of police and fire protection, schools, highways, hospitals and other government services. The remaining 10% goes into the state's general fund where it is used for similar purposes. The most recent payment was forthe six-month period ending Feb, 28, 1966. Nevada County as a whole, including the unincorporated area, received $24, 922 for the period. A package store beer and wine license costs the owner $37 with a yearly renewal fee of $12. A general on-sale tavern: license. costs $6,520 originally, with an annaul renewal fee of $580, while a beer and wine only tavern license costs $234, renewable yearly for $34. According toGeo, W. Ososke, executive secretary of the California Brewers Assn, , local governments throughout the state as awhole received $7,683,409 for the latest periodwhich, coupled with the $3, 908, 235 received for the period ending Aug. 31, 1965, makes an annual total of $11,591, 644. Tickets For The New Music Circus Season Are Now Going On Sale Producers Russelll.ewis and Howard Young announced that season ticket sales for the eight shows that make up the 16th season of the Sacramento Light Opera Association's Music Circus are moving briskly, As in the past the sales will be handled by the Civic Theater Box Office, 15th and H, Sacramento. The box office phone number is 441-3163, The season will open on Thursday, June 28rd. The first show is the recent London and New York success, Oliver! It will play foreleven nights and be followed by Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, Rosalinda, The Desert Song, Pal Joey, Carousel, and How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, which will run for two weeks, Persons buying season tickets will save 20 percent of the regular single ticket price.
