If anyone hadany doubts about
the need for prompt completion
of the Grass Valley-Nevada
City Freeway all they had to do
was stand on the core: of Mavs
and Auburn Streets in Grass Valley at noon on Memorial Day.
Traffic at the light on East
Main Street was backed all the
way out to Hills Flat. When the
light changed a few cars would
get through and head south on
Auburn Street. The line would
creep up a bitand then it would’
start all over again, The really
sad thing is that this situation,
with just a few less cars, can be
found almost any day at that
corner in Grass Valley.

A lot of people are wondering
why Nevada City's fiscal watchdog, Stan Howard suddenly decided to resign from the job
that was created especially for
him, Howard gave noreason
for his decision to leave the city

A large group of city and
county officials were taken on a
tour of the fire retardant plant
at Loma Rica County Airport
last Wednesday by the California
Division of Forestry and then
treated to lunch,
After lunch, Bob Stevenson,
owner of Cal-Nat Airways, offered to fly any of the group
around so they could see the
facility from the air, Nevada
City put all of its eggs in one .
basket and had two city councilmen and the city manager in
the air all at the same time.
The tour around the airport
took the group over the freeway
construction around Town Talk,
Nevada City Councilman Bob
Paine, discussing his aerial view
of the freeway work after he
landed commented, “I looked
down and said, good grief,
they've moved Malakoff Diggins, "

Since paintings of nudes will
be banned at the Nevada County
District Fair this August there is
talk of plans for an all nude
show in Nevada City.
These will be the paintings of
nudes that would have been
shown atthe fair, but are now
blacklisted under the fair's no
nude ruling. The location for
the proposed show has reportedly
not yet been chosen, but if it
does come off it will probably
be some kind of first for the
area,

There's also some talk that
the Twin Cities Community
Concert Association, which had
such a successful season by staging its own events last year,
may not be around for another
season,
There are many reasons for
this, but the biggest one is that
members of the association are
just getting tired of trying to get
residents to chip in for memberships to support the organi
zation,
Another reported reason for the
souring of the Concert Association's current membership drive
is the over abundance of plays,
concerts, dances, recitals and
other events which have been
filling every weekend evening
here for the past few months,
Even though this has been a
pretty busy place in which to
live in recent months, it is hard
to believe that the area and the
residents have become culturally saturated,
