Warns Of State
Water Proposal
Nevada County voters were
warned to take a good look at
Governor Brown’s proposed $1,750,000;000 water bond issue for
the Feather River Project, by
E. H. Spoor, executive secretary of the Mountain Counties
Association, at a meeting of Nevada Irrigation District water
users in Rough and Ready Hall.
Spoor pointed out Monday
night that the proposed bonds
are not revenue bonds and under
stae law he sate may. levy a
property tax to pay for them.
The bonds would finance. moving water from the northern part
of the state to Southern California,
Spoor declared Southern Caliifornia can get water from underground sources more. cheaply
than by moving it from. the north,
He pointed out also conversion of
sea water is being done successfully in several small plants along
the coast and within a few years :
this method should be cheap and
practical enough to make it unnecessary to transport water
hundreds of miles to. Southern
California.
Spoor urged Nevada County to
Speed completing the proposed
NID project for four dams and
powerhouses, pointing out that)
if this area lets water rights get
away. from it now they will be
lost forever,

income tax return?
. Answer: If your return is based
on calendar year 1959, it must be .
filed no later than April 15, .
Some taxpayers keep books on
a fiscal year basis. If you are one
of these taxpayers, your return
must be filed by the 15th day of
the fourth month following the
relose of your taxable year.
Remember: The law imposes
penalties and interest for failing
to file a return or for failing to
file a return by the deadline.
You may personally file your
return and pay your tax at any
