The Foley and Burke carnival
has been signed for the 1970
Nevada County District Fair,
{. Manager Malcolm Hammill reports.
Foley and Burke is one of the
largest carnival companies in
California and will come directly
to the local fairgrounds from
San Jose where the firm has
contracted to provide the carnival for the Santa Clara County
Fair.
Two spectacular rides will be
here August 27 30, the Swiss
toboggan and the sky diver. The
Swiss toboggan is based on the
Matterhorn ride at Disneyland
and cost Foley and Burke owners nearly $70,000, Hammill
said.
In agdition to the spectaculars, the carnival will have 10
major rides, nine rides for small
children and a giant slide. The
giant slide has five humps which

Foley-Burke Carnival —

Hammill attended a convention
of Western Fairs Association in
early February held at Disneyland, At the convention he and
other fair managers heard Assemblyman Frank Belotti say
that no cuts would be made in
most district and county fair
budgets for this year. / Belotti
of Eureka is chairman of the
joint legislative committee on
fairs allocations and classifications.
Mr, and Mrs, Lloyd Hilligoss
are owners of the Redwood City
based carnival company.
Magic show
set March 14
There will be a performance
of legerdemain at Nevada City's
Old Nevada Theater March 14,
Performing the feats of magic
will be Wertman, the World's
Wonderful Wizard at the 2 p.m.
show.
Larry Wertman, 18 yearsold,
saw his first magic show nine
years ago, the next day he was
at the local library checking out
books on magie. Since that time
Larry Wertman has been doing
magic. In the last five years he
has been performing semi-professionally for clubs, schools,
fairs, and children's parties, He
has also-attended three international conventions of magic,
Larry most enjoys performing
_ for children. He will soon per7
form at the Gold Flat School, .%

seeks re-election
as administrator
Albert J. Ahearn today announced his candidacy today for
another four-year term as public
administrator of Nevada county.
Ahearn made this statement:
"As your public administrator
for the past 11 years, I ask for
your vote for re-election at the
June 2, 1970 primary.
"I am very proud of my record
during my terms in office, This
is a full time job for me. lam
available to anyone who needs
my services at any hour of the
day.
"Honesty is the main requisite

in Grass Valley with the exception of several years in the bay
district and know Nevada county
and its people. I have been a
