Berliner To Rid County Of Junk Cars
_ _(Continued from Page 1)
provision of the Fish and Game
Code and has been used successfully here to prosecute persons
dumping cars inte streams,
A section of the Motor Vehicle
Code makes it illegal to abandon
automobiles on roads and gives
the Sheriff, the Highway Patrol
or city police the power to remove any vehicle apparently
abandoned and charge the owner
for towing and storage. This includes cars abandoned on public
or private property.
A third method of handling the
problem is covered in the county
zoning ordinance which requires
a junk yard permit for storage of
junk covering an area of more
than 200 square feet. Berliner
noted this includes automobiles
or any junk and covers all zones
in the county.
“Using these three laws, " Berliner said, “it is going to be our
policy to enforce the law by encouraging the owners to remove
the cars themselves." He pointed
out that over half the abandoned
vehicles are abandoned by owners
on their own property.
"We will try to get the owners
to remove the cars themselves
and will givereasonable warning.
If anyone refuses to obey the law,
we will prosecute, "
“We need public support to
locate these vehicles, " Berliner
continued. “Once we find them
we will enlist the help of the
Sheriff's Office and the Highway
Patrol forthe investigation. They
have never failed to help when
asked, "
Questioned about where the
owners were to get rid of their
junk cars, Berliner said they
should be taken to the county
dump. If that becomes filled,
then he saidhe would have to and
would go before the county supervisors for another solution.
He concluded hopefully that
with information and public support, it was not unreasonable to
think that the blight of abandoned
cars in the county could be eliminated by summer.

three months. One would ask
permission to borrow from the
federal government to allow reconstruction and enlargement of.
the district's transmission facilities, including the Cascade
System, under the Small Projects
Act. The second proposition
would ask for permission to sell
some $8 million in Yuba-Bear
River project bonds remaining
from the original $65 million
authorization. These funds would
be used to construct treatment
plants in Nevada and Placer
counties.
The bonds are revenue bonds
and Sauers explained, in answer

In other action the council approved a resolution setting up
personnel policies for the city.
The lengthy resolution came out
of a study of personnel needs and
policies developed by a citizens

for the first time.
Although it was one of the main
purposes for the meeting, the
council took no action on the
