Mrs. Helene Hurlbut had an
entry in the Marysville Antique
y earlier this month and had
away from home and bus-for several days. Helene
had a display in this event

ago. 3 time she entered some
particularly nice small pieces
and a special display of jewelry.

_. Mr. Simeon Grieme will be
ir -the hospital a little while
longer. He was expected home
lastweek but a minor complication delayed his release. He
has been at the Travis Air Base
hospital since January when he
was admitted for major surgery.
His ‘wife, Dora, who works at
the pest office, reports that he
has recuperated nicely from the
‘surgery and will be feeling up
to par again when he does get
home,

Mrs. Mary O'Neal spent last
weekend seeing Disneyland. She
took the 4-day Railroaders Junket out of San Francisco and had
an escorted tour of the famed
resort as well as a couple of
days of fun traveling. She returned looking even happier than
“usual and reported “having a
ball.” '

Grange members and friends,
get out your. calendars. Members, circle Friday, March 21,
at 6:30 p.m. for potluck dinner
and at 8 for regular meeting.
Everyone is invited to the public party Saturday, March 22,
at 8 p.m. Bring your tickets
for the quarterly drawing. Refreshments will be served. Donation is 50 cents, Charles and
Clara Deardorf are the chairmen for this event. It will be a
good opportunity to see the new

Mrs, Doris Bradley is home
after a brief stay at Miners
Hospital for observation and
treatment. It had been feared
there was a recurrence of her
very serious back problem. It
proved to be a torn ligament.
Painful and slow healing as this
problem.is, it's confirmation
came as a pleasant relief for
Mrs, Bradley. Mr. Bradley. is
stili recovering from his recent
illness and there is such a thing
as just too much.

Mr. Ted Pearson is home
from Sierra N. Mem'! hospital.
He fainted last week and fell on
their cement porch and broke
some ribs. They kept him at
the hospital for a couple of
days to observe and treat the
cause of the fainting spells.
Mr, Pearson had to give up
heavy work last year due to a
heart condition. He is feeling
much better now even though the
ribs are very painful.

Mr. Kenneth Wilson, who is

month long visit to the hospital
is at home. Dorctor's. orders
are to be extra careful for at
least. six months. The Wilsons
retired here about 2 years ago
from the strenuous life of a
cattle ranch,

Rough and Ready Chamber of
Commerce met last Monday at
Big John's Restaurant for luncheon followed by a regular business session. We were treated
to Big John's special smoked
turkey. Major item of business
was the kick-off of the celebration of our annual secession activities. Mrs, Mary O'Neal was
appointed chairman of this event
the chuck wagon breakfast.

Airman ist Class Terrence
Harwood, who is stationed at
Nellis Air Base near Las Vegas,
has taken up sky diving as a
hobby. He reports convincingly
that it is not dangerous. and is
lots of fun. Terry had expected
‘to be‘in Vietnam by now but has
been reassigned to Nellis on a
training mission. He was originally assigned to Nellis when
he completed special weapons
school at Denver, Colorado.

The Hugh T. Dunbars celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Mareh 11,
Mr, "Buck" Doolan had his final check up at Travis last
Thursday. His wife, Evelyn re“ports he is doing.fine and the
hospital agrees. Buck had
shoulder sargery there recently.
Sid Fippin enjoys being home,
He says he feels fine. He looks
thin but he tells me the doctor
wants him to lose 9 more pounds,

I just met our new neighbors,
the Robert L. Heinsohns who live
on Squirrel Creek across the
highway from us. They purchased their home here several
years ago but only moved up
from Long Beach last October.

about $1,000 a month more for
data processing this fiscal year
than it did for a less sophisticated bookkeeping system last
year.
Figures detailing the total cost
of the county's data processing _
equipment and employes have
been prepared by Auditor-Controller John T, Trauner andpresented to The Union.
They show that the new computer system has a gross cost
which is $20,212.92 higher in
1968-69 than the county spent
in 1967-68,
However, $2,400 can be deducted from the county's cost
because of reimbursement from
the federal government for welfare bookkeeping, and -another
$6,000 can be deducted as the
payment anticipated from Nevada Irrigation District for
county handling of its assessments, Trauner said.
Trauner provided an item by
item. breakdown of the costs relating to data processing last
year and those this year. Here
is that breakdown by department using monthly cost figures:
-Auditor's office. NCR 395,
$577.50 last year; NCR 500,
$1,869 this year; key punch,
$91.35 both years; account clerk,
$370 last year, $418 asa computer operator this year; account
clerk Il, $418 last year, $455as
a programmer this year; supervising account clerk, $496 last
year, $518 as a programmer
this year. .
Total cost for data processing in this office each month,
$1,952 last year, $8,351 this
year
-Treasurer's office. Supervising account clerk, $418 both
years; NCR tape recorder, nothing last year, $49.25 this year.

Last fiscal year, the bookkeeping system’ cost $4,354. a
month or $52,248 for the year.
This year, the monthly cost is
$6,088, and the yearly cost, before deductions for outside payments, is $72,461,
