New owners of Pioneer Travel Service
Have traveled
extensively
They met at Kennedy Airport
in New York, and it might be
termed a case of "love at first
flight". Now they are engaged in
an exciting business in Grass
Valley, and "want to spend the
rest of our lives in this beautiful community."
Ed and Mary Fllen Crane
recently purchased Pioneer
Travel Service at 156 Mill
Street; and, as professional travel consultants, they can open
up whole new worlds of travel
adventure for those with the yen
and time to get away from the
humdrum of routine.
It admittedly costs money to
travel. . . .but with careful planning and proper scheduling,
many delightful travel gems are
available within the limitations
of any checkbook. And a few
minutes conversation with Ed
and Mary Ellen is guaranteed to
give one a hard case of wanderlust.
The Cranes have traveled extensively, and love it. They've
visited many romatic and colorful places. . ..East Africa, South
America, and Middle East,
Greece, the Crient, and they
lived and worked in Hawaii for {
three years at one time. Prior
to their marriage, Mary Ellen
enjoyed a stay in Italy as a
university student.
It was almost 20 years ago
that Ed left the U.S, Air Force
and joined Eastern Airlines. . .
the first of several major lines
for which he worked. . . ."because I had flying in my blood."
It's a long story, but after the
three years on the Hawaiian
scene, he was in New York City
for the Hwaiian Visitors’ Bureau. . . .later joined TWA and
came to San Francisco in 1965
with their marketing division.
From there they went to San
Jose to live and work for a
travel agency. . . .where Mary
Ellen was a part-time employe.
They came to Grass Valley
from San Jose, Their long-nurtured desire to have an agency
of their own prompted them to
check a "lead" on a bureau
reportedly for sale in Sonoma
... .but they arrived too late
ED AND MARY Ellen Crane are familiar with traveling on
purchased the Pioneer Travel Service in Grass Valley.
to make a deal there. . . .so
followed the travel business
"esrapevine’ to Pioneer Travel
Service a short time &go. ...
and now feel that the "dream"
has become reality in every
way.
Mary Ellen was bitten by the
travel bug when she started to
work for AirFrance in New York
City, and the ailment became
acute during her student years
in Italy, Upon her return to the
United States, she worked for
BOAC out of Kennedy Airport
. . . .and there she met Ed,
The addition to the family
of handsome son Steve, age five,
and later — Kimberly, a pretty
two and a half year old doll —
limited her career to part-time
work in the San Jose agency.
These dearly loved adopted children are being well cared for at
home now, permitting their
mother more time to devote
to the new business,
Ed says they have never been
so elated and happy before, The
agency is doing an excellent
cruise business, . . .one example cited is that they have
11 area folks off on a dream
cruise to the Caribbean now ...
with many more such reservations coming in daily. They find
said Ed, that such cruises have
a great appeal to the older and
retired persons,
When you visit Pioneer Travel
Service you will find hundreds
of colorful and intriguing brochures designed to make ''going
somewhere soon" a perfectly
wonderful idea for any age
group. No matter where your
interests lie, or what your motives may be for wanting to get
away from it all. .. .there's
a world wide basis, They have
an adventure in travel tailored
to your needs and pocketbook at
Pioneer,
Given a bit more time and
opportunity to really ''see'' this
area, the Cranes will eventually
select some property and build
a permanent home,. They are
presently renting a comfortable
place in Peardale. Ed belongs
to Kiwanis and the Chamber of
Commerce, and plans on really
active membership in these local civic organizations,
He and Mary Ellen are water
sport enthusiasts, . ..they especially enjoy boating and water
skiing, . . .and are looking forward to making full use of the
recreational facilities offered
in the area. Drop in soon and
have a chat with this fine young
couple, . . .you'll enjoy it, and
so will they!
