Freeway light
standards get
‘slip bases’
Lighting standards along six
freeways will be equipped with
"slip bases" designed to give way
easily upon impact, according to
the Division of Fighways.
The freeways to receive the
new lighting standards include
Interstate 80 in Nevada and Placer counties. A_ half-mile
segment at Emigrant Gap and a
three mile segment near
Truckee, in Nevada county; and
six miles between Applegate and
Colfax in Placer county will receive the new safety devices.
In addition to equipping the
standards with "slip bases" any
standard foundations high enough
for a vehicle to collide with
them will be-replaced. Those
standards within 10 feet of the
traffic lanes will be relocated
18 feet from traffic.
The Department of Public
Works is advertising for bids
for the lighting standards and
will open bids in Sacramento on
April 12, The project, covering
six freeways in seven counties,
will cost approximately $63,006.

which Louie planted near our
pond. My two locus plants, [
found out, are not locus plants
at all. Now I've got to find out
what they really are.
