Successful Plans For Summer
Spring is the time for the gardener to get to
work cleaning up the ravages of the winter and
planning and planting for the summer.
Spring is alsothe time to plant bare root stock.
Certain plants can be handled easier and more
economically by bare root planting in the spring.
The bare root planting season ends about April
15 so those who want to plant such things as
fruit trees, nuts, berries should be thinking about
itnow. Thesecanbe planted later than April 15,
but have tobe handled in containers and are usually more expensive.
Plants which flower in the spring include the
quince, crab apple, peach and plumb.
This is also the time to think watering and irrigation. Information on growing, pruning, watering and fertilizing plants may be obtained at a
spring afternoon visit to one of the nurseries in
the county.
