County Recreation Increases Spring is a good time to visit Scotts Flat Reservoir--one of the county's newest recreational facilities, The dam was increased in height some 35 feet as part of the Nevada Irrigation District's $59 million Yuba-Bear River hydro-electric project. This segment of the work was the first of the project units to be completed. Scotts Flat is one of four district reservoirs slated for recreational developmentunder a more then $4 million Davis-Grunsky Act grant from tfe state. Although no recreational development has started on the lake because the district's recreational grant has not yet received final approval from the state, long range plans call for a three stage development to include 80 picnic units, 146 camp units, an overlook with parking for 49 cars, four boat ramps with parking for 100 cars and trailers andtwo swimming beaches each one over one and one hald acres in sizewith parking for 60 cars. Over a mile of access road is planned to serve these areas. The estimated cost for the entire recreation project is $688,000. Because of its proximity to Nevada City, the lake has also always been popular with local fisherman, With its increase in the surface area caused by the raising of the height of the dam, the lake will be able to accomidate even more recreationists. Plans call for elimination of the rough fish now inhabiting the lake andthe restocking of the reservoir with trout. The views above show the downstream face of the enlarged dam anda view of how the bigger lake will look for future fisherman. The lake is a short drive south east of Nevada City and is well worth a spring afternoon ride to see. ‘the Golden Rain tree was one of the earliest planted tees in China, three thousand years ago, being especially planted on the tombs of scholars. workpower “walks” right over bumps and trouble Independent front. suspension takes the “truck” out of truck ride.
