Chamber tidbits
when the Auxiliary of the Americo The Chamber has laready received a confirmation from the
Preston School Bandmaster,
Dexter Clement, stating that the
band will again be participating
in our July 4th parade. The
school of industry is celebrating
their 57th year, therefore they
will tie in well with our theme,
"In The Beginning."
The parade and celebration
committee, headed by Chris
Schaaf, are meeting again this.
week, when parade rules and
entry blanks will be approved
for mailing. More committee
appointments will be made. We
expect to have more adult games
and entertainment, and, hopefully, entertainment for children
one afternoon, The Elks will
kick off the exciting weekend
with a dinner at their lodge,
and have engaged the popular
Sacramento Banjo Band to entertain, The queen will he
crowned that evening, and there
will be a play in the Old Nevada
Theater.
More planting is being done
within the city, to add beauty
and charm for our own pleasure
as well as the visitors. Betty
Dalpez and her Brownies planted various kinds of bulbs in the
planters along the streets, and
Mr. Clemo is doing more planting down at the postoffice. Work
will begin soon on the hanging
baskets. Mrs, Yolanda Reed has
kindly. granted permission to us
to at least edge her lot with
plants. _ This“ location is next
door to the theater.
Our Nevada City auctioneer,
John Reed, has offered his services to conduct an auction next
month. Plans will be finalized
this week. All merchants who
will participate, will offer up to:
five items for auction, and Mr.
Reed will do the selling in front
of each business house. Merchants will be contacted within
the next week and we trust that
all will want to join in this venture which will be highly publicized, Plans are to set a date
when a tour will be visiting Nevada City.
Ladies' groups are beginning
to arrive for visits to our historic city. The next is April 8,

Northern California, reported
today that some U. S, servicemen who serve in Vietnam and ;
other combat zones during the
year 1969 are making an error
on their federal income tax returns that can delay their refunds.
They are including as "gross.
income" combat pay, which is
non-taxable income and thus are
paying more taxes than they
should.
Servicemen, Red Cross workers, federal civilian employes,
accredited correspondants and
others in Vietnam supporting
the armed services, have an
automatic extension of time fcr
filing federal tax returns. Their
returns will not be due until 180
days after they leave Vietnam,
or April 15, 1970 whichever
is later.
If the wife of a serviceman
filing a joint return and ‘chooses
not to wait until her husband
returns, she should indicate. in
