Teachers
is best new club
The Nevada Union High School
Future Teachers of America
won the trophy for the best new
club’ in Northern Section for the
second consecutive year.
The award wasgiven at the
annual ‘Future Teachers Conference held at Sacramento State
College last month. The conference was sponsored by the
Student California Teachers Association, SSC chapter. Seventyfive clubs were represented,
including clubs from Auburn,
Placerville, Sacramento, Stock-"
ton and Vacaville.
A tour of the campus plus
an outstanding program were
presented. The purpose of this
year's conference was to present some of the important issues and trends in education.
Wayne Carothers, professional
services consultant for the
California Teachers Association, addressed the group. Other
interesting topics that were discussed included drugs in the
schools, institutional racism and
student rights.
The one activity of the chapter
that is of most value to the
FTA members of the volunteer
teacher aide program. This
program gives the students
valuable vocational training.
Members are participating in
the Grass Valley, Nevada City
and Nevada ‘Union High ‘School
districts and are helping to tutor students who need special
help.
In the Grass Valley District,
a program called "group gui11 locals on
honor roll
Sierra College has released
the names of students who made
the president's honor roll for
the fall semester, all have a
3.5 or better grade point average.
Of the nearly 100 students 11
are from the Golden Empire and
surrounding towns,

were presented by the association to two senior members,

James G. Else
runs for public
administrator
James G, (Jim) Else today
announced his candidacy for public administrator of Nevada
county at the June 2 primary.
Else made this statement concerning his candidacy: ;

raised in Massachusetts. He attended Northeastern University
majoring in business adminis.
