Box 1021 California Dessert Low in Calories “ge What's for dessert? In California, if you guess ‘fruit’, you're probably right. For hostesses on the west coast are past masters in the art of concocting fabulous fruit finales. One delightful fruit compote. which may be served either warm or chilled, combines luscious fresh pears with citrus juices and slices. The pears are cooked in a sweetened mixture of orange and lemon juices, which then is thickened to form a sweet and tangy sauce. Calories are kept to a minimum in this delicious dessert by the use of the non-caloric sweetener, Sucaryl. Simply by sweetening the sauce with liquid Sucaryl, rather than with sugar, nearly 200 calories are slashed from each serving. Easy to use in cooking, this sweetener blends right into the other ingredients to provide uniform, natural-tasting sweetness. Try this recipe and discover for yourself how easy it is to cut calories this sweet way. Compote of Pears, California-Style (Low-Calorie) 6 fresh pears 1 medium orange, thinly sliced 1 lemon, thinly sliced 14, cup orange juice 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons Sucaryl solution 2 teaspoons cornstarch 15 cup water Combine orange juice, lemon juice, Sucaryl and water in a saucepan.
