Many residents of Placer and
Sierra Nevada counties have or
will soon receive a gift as members of Baptist churches distribute "twenty-one chapters of the
World's Best Selling Book."
According to L.L. Richardson,
Director of Missions for the
Sierra Foothills Baptist Association, copies of the Gospel of
John will be distributed by church
members as-continuing preparation for the ENCOUNTER Crusade, scheduled in Roseville
April 21-26. "This effort is part
of our program to bring the good
news of Christ to those who do
not know the joy of his love.
In each person's life, there
comes a time when he must say
"yes" or "no" to Christ. We are
trying to provide the information
‘ on which this decision can be
on _ made. "ENCOUNTER with Christ
; : ee can be life's greatest adventure",
he said.
Reverend Richardson pointed
out that the church members
who are distributing the booklet
will confine their visits to one
minute at the door, just enough
time to deliver the booklet and
a word of greeting.
The specially prepared editions of the Gospel of John are
from the American Bible Society translation, "Today's ModNEVADA CITY FIREMEN simulate an event that happens many times during the year when the
rescue squad and car are called into action. The car, purchased in 1953, has made over 1,000
calls and been responsible for the saving of many lives. In 1967, 61 rescue calls were made.
An example of rescue activity concerned an Air Force pilot transferred west from Ohio.
Driving all the way, the man became exhausted and parked his car along Highway 20-40 to
rest. He turned on the heater and, some time later, fumes rendered him unconscious and he
slumped onto the steering wheel against the horn. A person was attracted to the car by the
horn's blowing, and the Nevada City rescue squad used a resuscitator to save his life. Shown

Mike Pello on the ‘litter. The rescuers do not confine their work just to Nevada City. They
have answered calls in many areas, wherever people are in trouble.

known as "Good News for Modern Man". The Southern Baptist
churches in the Sierra Foothills
Association will distribute 12,000 copies of the specially printed Gospel of John.
The ENCOUNTER Crusade
will be an event of April 2126 with evening services being
held in Johnson Hall at the Roseville Fairgrounds. Participating
churches will conduct follow-up
services April 27 through May 5.
