Under the direction of Herb Pingree, the program was put into full operation at the close of the last irrigation season. This winter district crews sprayed about 24 miles of ditches in Placer and Nevada counties with sail sterilant. One reservior was also treated. When the spray program is completed it will eventually eliminate much of the ditch and reservoir cleaning now done by backhoe and bring about a saving of time and expense. The backhoes were still at work thisseason. The maintenance crew under the direction ofJason Davis cleaned approximately 25 miles of ditches inthe Placer division and about 35 miles in Nevada county, About 30 miles of ditches which could not be reached by machines were cleaned by hand in Nevada county and about 15 miles were hand cleaned in Placer.county, Crews working on spot brush control cleared 10 . miles of ditches of brush and large trees and treated the . stumps. NID crews have installed 500 feet of 18 inch pipe in . the Placer division ‘and 400 feet of flumes in Nevada . county. Because of recent storms, crews have been kept busy cleaning out mud slides in if several ditches of the Nev.
