Miners Win Again By Downing Indians
Miner cagers pulled out a close
one Friday night to continue
their win streak and dump the
Marysville Indians 69-66,
The Nuggets poured it on the
Papooses for a 54-42 win,
In the Miner game, Dave
Breuer had to be called on for
the rebounds when the team's
big rebounder, Bill Penaluna,
picked up three fouls in the
first quarter and was benched
for most of the second,
SPORTS
Butch Ellis, who usually works
the back court, had to move in
when Randy Humphries ran cold
for most of the night.
The Indians took a seven point
leadinthe first quarter and held
it for the next three quarters
going intothe final frame 50-43,
Penaluna was sent in in the
last quarter and the Miners outscored the Indians to take the
game.
Sierra's Wolverine Basketball Team
Wins One, Loses One By Small Margin
Sierra College's Wolveiine
basketball team dumped College of Siskiyous Saturday night,
71-57, after losing a game Friday to Shasta College by an almost identical margin, 72-60,
Auburn's Jon Snyder came off
the benchtoreplace starter Duke
Campbell when the Duke sprained an ankle in a floor scramble
for a loose ball, All Snyder did
was score 19 points for high man
honors and his season's best total,
Trailing 31-30 at the half, the
Sierrans tied it and went ahead
immediately after the second
half started, though the game
stayed close until three minutes
to go.
Skip Benham hit for 16, Doug
McCord for 11, Don Bransford for
10 and Glenn Saxton for nine for
the locals as they scored their
fourth win of the season against
a dozen losses. Big Bob Corson
had 13 andBob Duchi 16 for COS.
Friday night the Sierrans trailed
29-27 atthe half, and trailed by
only four or five points most of
the second half, But with half
theteam still suffering from the
flu bug and with Bob Noyes of
Two Norweigans Excel
Sierra Skiers Get Easy Win
Sierra College's skiers, led by
a pair of Norse students, romped
to an easy win in the Far Western Collegiate championships,
with University of Nevada trailing Coach Paul Chesney's charges.
Sophomore Knut Olberg proved
the outstanding skier of the day
‘with firsts in both the cross country race of six miles and the slalom. He also was third in the
jumping won by fellow Norwegian Einnar Bekken, also of
Sierra, and fifth in the downhill race which was won by
