at a meeting of the NID board of
directors,
Final acceptance of the project
as fully operational is of critital’
importance to the district. The
project was financed by the sale
of revenue bonds which were to
be retired with revenue derived
from the sale of electric power
generated at the district's two
new power plants on Bear River
and from the sale of power water to PG&E.
Failure to make deliveries
could cost the district a penalty
of $9,000 a day.
Acceptance of the project as
fully operational was delayed
by the collapse late last year of
two sections of the new Dutch
Flat Flume on Bear River, Although the faulty sections were
quickly repaired, PG&E demanded that approximately four
miles of the outer wall of the
flume by reinforced to prevent
future failures,
District officials appeared before the California Districts
Securities Commission Feb, 18
in San Francisco to obtain permission to use project bond
monies and district forces to
make the necessary reinforcement to the flume, The commission approved the project and
work is already under way,
W agniere told the directors
Friday that work on the $75,000
job is progressing despite poor
w eather: conditions and crews
will work around the clock if
necessary to complete the project,
In other action, the board released approximately $500,000
to project contractor, Paul
Hardeman, Inc, The money is
a portion of a $1.5 million retention fund the district has been
holding back on the job,
Action on the release of funds
came after a discussion about
who would be responsible if the
district failed to meet the full
operation date on the project and
the $9,000 per day penalty was
invoked,
resigned as County Clerk in order to accept the combined position of Auditor-Controller,
Trauner is married to the former Doris Frank of Rough and
Ready where they now reside,
They have 3 children, Dale,
Kathy, and John.
Trauner has been active
throughout his adult life in civic
affairs both locally and through
the state. He is a veteran of
WW II serving with the 2nd Armored Division and was one of
the soldiers privileged to participate in the triumphant march
into Berlin.
Trauner has served during a
period of great change in County
Government and has met the
challenge of modern government
as it affects his particular office.
Presently he -is engaged in the
study and programing of electronic data processing, which
will become effective in Nevada
County, July 1st-of this year,
In asking the electorate to return him tohis present office, he
restates the pledge he made to
Nevada County voters four years
ago. In 1962 he stated, ."I
pledge tothe voters of this county
a most efficient, progressive
Auditor's office at the most economical cost to the taxpaying
public", Today in asking for
your support, he reiterates that
pledge.
