Begovich Will Be Candidate >
For New Third Senate District
State Senator John C. Begovich has announced he would
run for re-election to the State
Senate from District No. 3. The
district includesall of twelve
counties: Alpine, Amador,
Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen,
Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Stanislaus and
Tuolumne,
Begovich said the district was
‘so large that “It demands a
state senator prepared to devote
full time to public service if the
people are to be properly represented,
"Ipledge exactly that" he declared, “With reapportionment,
a part ti me Legislator for twelve
counties is obsolete, He simply
won't have time to do the jobno matter how sincere he may
be.
“Iwas one of the small band of
stalwarts in the Legislature who
fought to the end against reapportionment, " Begovich reminded, “But, now that it is a bitter fact, we must compensate
against out loss by the quality
and vigor of our remaining representation, Otherwise, we

Announces Plans
On Stampede Dam
Congressman Harold T. (Bizz)
Johnson, representing the Second Congressional District, has
been advised that the Bureau of
Reclamation hopes to call for
bids in March or April for construction of Stampede Dam.
The Bureau of Reclamation
project on the Little Truckee River will create a 225,000 acre
foot reservoir as part of the Washoe Project. Funds for the start
of construction were appropriated
by Congress for the current fiscal year.
Completion of the dam and reservoir, an $11,750,000 project
is scheduled for June, 1970.
