Grass Valley Trustee Seats Up For Purchases A Chlorinator. (Continued from Page 1) The council voted to place an immediate long distance call to the firm of Wallace and Tierman in San Francisco to purchase the new chlorine device. Hodge expressed the hope that-installation could be completed by March 1. The chlorine injector will be installed and tested by an engineer and chemist from the firm. The cost will be $870 plus freight and sales tax. The mayor explained that water in Pennsylvania Reservoir would now be doubly protected. It was water from this storage area that flunked a February purity test. He stated Pennsylvania Reservoir water, which is drawn from the Alta Street Reservoir, often lay stagnant and thus lost its --chlorination because of low water usage in the winter months. Hodge also reported that he asked Dr. Rayburn about procedures to be followed by city personnel in the event of medical emergencies. Apparently, police and firemen have had trouble in the past locating a physician that would come to the scene of an emergency. Hodge said Dr. Rayburn had recommended thecity pass a standing order that an ambulance be called and an emergency victim be taken to a hospital, where he would receive speedy. medical attention. ° On the advice of city attorney William Cassettari that "we would be sticking out our neck” by pass~ ing an ordinance whereby the city might be held liable if a patient was harmfully moved without a doctor's consent, no motion on the matter was introduced. SPECIAL en RL “(Continued from Page 1) Union District in the Penn Valley area will be asked to appreve a $45,000 bond issue and to give authorization for state loan of £197,000 to expand the school Mayor Hodge Says Grass Valley ToHave Safe Water (Continued from Page 1) meeting to Grass Valley resident Loy L. Vose that city water had passed all purification tests was made in good faith. He explained that all previous reports up to the month of February were satisfactory, andthat he had not received the February report when he made his statement. Hodge mentioned that County Health officer Dr. C. Jackson Rayburn had told him that the water situation was not as serious as it appeared, and that his Februare 23 letter to the city council was intended to inform the city that it might be liable for damages in the event of a water borne epidemic if the situation at Pennsylvania Reservoir was not cor — rected, Public Works Director Art Colon said published reports in the local daily paper that the city had taken no action after receiving a report from the State Health Department were untrue. Councilman Richard Hales complained that the water pollution problem was being blown out of «proportion by the press, ‘and that all the actions of the city were not being reported. The mayor emphasized that the city would take all necessary action to insure pure water. “We are not shirking our duties,” Hodge said, “we are trying to do the best we can with the funds we have available,” INSURANCE PROTECTION .
