Twin Cities concert set The annual local concert of the Twin Cities Concert Association will take place at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Veterans' Memorial Building, Grass Valley. In an effort to hear a maximum number of musicians ina ’ minimum length of time, the emphasis this year will be on ensemble work, All performers are local singers and musicians who donate their time and talent for this concert. The Twin Cities Instrumental Ensemble, as a whole and in sections, will present the first part of the program, After the intermission, they will be joined ESTHER REBEKAH LODGE District Deputy President Gladys Stokes will make her last official visit to Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 9 at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 9, in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall, 110 1/2 Mill Steeet, Grass Valley. All officers and members are urged to attend. During the Feb,24 meeting of Esther Rebekah, presided over by Noble Grand Lura Arnold, delegates were elected to attend the Rebekah Assembly. Those elected were Sybil Ridinger, Zale Johnson, Edna Rudd, Gladys Clemo and Emily Hodgkin, The Assembly will be held in May in Sacramento. Heart Fund Chairman Hilda Sandow reported progress was being made on the addressing and stuffing of envelopes. Refreshments were served by Barbara Stinson, Evelyn Gimmel, and Laura Carlson. Tables were decorated with lovely spring flowers by Grace McCullough, Mexican student at school here The Seven Hills Intermediate School was horfored during.a two week visit of a 13 year old boy from Mexico. Jorge Gutierrez, of Mexico City, came to Nevada City by arrangements made through the efforts of Mrs. Carmen Eoff, the Seven Hills School Spanish teacher. He attended classes each day and was of special help to the Spanish students. He spoke no English. During Jorge's visit he was a guest in the Pablo Chavez home. He was also entertained widely; visited Harrah's Antique Auto Collection, Squaw Valley, and was honored at various social functions. Jorge's visit in Nevada City was well received and appreciated by students, teachers and parents alike. The visit was made possible by the contribution of the following organizations; Nevada City Elks Club; Grass Valley Jaycees; Grass Valley Jayceettes; Grass Valley-Nevada City Kiwanis Club; Nevada City P. This is an ode to peace, full of musical contrasts, which ends in the rousing "Song of the Marching Men." It is under the direction of Bernard Rockwood, who was in charge of the local performances of Handel's "Messiah" in years . past. The Nevada City Garden Club will meet at the home of Dorothy Gwinn, 425 Zion St., at 12:30 p.m, March 14, Co-hostesses will be Florence Hearner and Loretta Kraitich, Peggy Rood will give a short talk on St. Patrick's Day, and officers for 1968-69 will be elected. It's a well-deserved tribute which we pay to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Battle proposed mobile home law Nevada County citizens who own moblie homes on private property -have joined together to wage a fight.against proposed legislation that would compel yearly inspection of sanitary, electrical and other moblie home facilities. Meeting at the Rough and Reday Grange Hall Mar. 1 the owners formed "The Golden Chain Chapter of Mobilhome Owners on Private Property" and plan to oppose the new tax concept. About 85 persons voiced their opposition to the propose legislation which was sent to the county board of supervisors for study.
