Zion St. to be widened 16 feet
. Zion Street will be widened
to 40 feet from its present 24
feet, project engineer R, W.
(Pat) Ingram told the Nevada
City City Council and three home
owners of the area at the ad‘ journed meeting Monday evening.
Ingram pinned a map of the
street on the council chamber
wall showing the proposed widening areas and indicating the few
trees which will have to be removed. "No more than four,”
said Ingram. _
Only two small areas: need
additional land, at the Seven
Hills School turn on both sides
of the curve, said Ingram. He
said that curve of Zion onto Sacramento St. will be opened to a
safer arc. :
Two members of the council,
Bob Paine and John Rankin, and
the three visitors, all property
owners along Zion St., asked
a number of questions with none
in opposition to the proposed
engineering project.
The cost is estimated at $67,800, said Ingram, not including
sidewalks which are the responsibility of each resident. Ingram said if the same contractor puts in four and one-halffoot wide sidewalks all along
the project the cost will be $2.25 per front foot for each resident.

He suggested the council immediately ask each property
owner by letter if they are
willing to pay their proportioned
share of the sidewalk costs.
Rankin and Paine said they
had no objection to their sidewalk costs and that the property
owners of Zion St. present for
a previous meeting had been in
unanimous agreement about paying their share of the sidewalks.
