Mr. Sid Fippin came home from the hospital last Monday and on Thursday had another rather severe attack and had to be taken back again. Sid just can't take it easy when he gets home. There are too many old friends to say hello to and too many happenings in his little town to check up on. * * & Mrs, Omar Zumwalt went into the hospital last week for observation. She is much better, and is scheduled to come home almost immediately. Daughter and granddaughter of Redding came down for & ade days visit. Mr, and Mrs. W, R. Avery and son "Bill" spent last week end at Morro Bay. Mr. Averys' sister is visiting here from Kansas City and there was a family get-together with other relatives in the Morro Bay area, "Ginger" Gleason Anderson, daughter of the Harold Gleasons of Lazy Valley Road is home for a visit. Ginger and her family, husband Frank and three children, own and operate a large Black Angus cattle ranch at Silver Lake, Oregon. The Harold Gleasons operate a Grade A dairy farm and run a few beef cattle on their Lazy Valley Ranch. The Rough and Ready Dinner House was closed all last week. Mrs, Fern Miller who prepares the delicious food served there, is recovering from a bout with pneumonia, Her three helpers, husband Bob and young friends Bud and Kathy Pendergraft, have all had the "flu." They are all up and about now and the Dinner House is open again for business, * Mrs, Eugene Walter and her three little daughters are in Southern California, Mrs. Walter is visiting her father who is very ill, She hopes to be able to return by the weekend. * *O* : Mr. T. B. Broadus of Hilaire Acres Rd. had a birthday on March 5. Son Buddy and daughter Mary and their families came home. over the weekend for a Mr. Earl Brown son-in-law, of Auburn has his birthday on March 15, and they always celebrate together. Besides cake, Marie baked chocolate pies and other delicacies to add to the festivities. Best part of the fun, however, was the three grandchild. ren ages 4, 6, and 9 years, There was a_new calf, named Martha because she was born on the eve of Washington's Birthday, and a 7 week old Puppy called George to entertain the youngsters. * Ok * Mrs, Helene Hurlbut and Dr. and Mrs. Bert Spaite have just returned from two weeks spent -in the sun in Mexico. They are brown and happy but inspite of all their fun are glad to be home, Their itinerary included La Paz and Mazatlan. A beautiful pre-Lenten Carnival in Mazatlan provided some interesting events they will long remember. * *k * The only complaint the Fire Dept. Auxiliary had about their financially successful Bake Sale last weekend was lack of goodies. There were plenty of customers and the home made goodies were very tempting. The only complaint the The Secession Day Doll Couturieres will meet at the home of Mrs. Mary O'Neal on Thursday March 7 at 2 p.m. All doll lovers: are welcome. Call 2732934 for directions or transporoe * * * The Ready Springs Mothers’ Club will have their Spring Jitney Dinner Saturday March 9 from. 5:30 to 7:30. Following the dinner, Donna Lewis, chairman, will present the Newcomers Lyric Ensemble under the direction of Mrs. Helen Beatie of Rough and Ready. Friday March 8 chairman Norma Meade will present a talent show with entertainment also provided by the NUHS Boys Choir and Girls Ensemble, RX Don't forget the Rough and Ready Grange Public Party Sunday March 10 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m, at the Grange Hall. * kX At 5:30 p.m., following the Public Party, the Rough and Ready Square Dancers will hold their regular monthly pot luck dinner followed by a short business meeting and a square dance workshop called by club caller Bob Jackson. * * * Chairman Bill Thomas announces that on March ll at 8 p.m. the chamber of commerce will hold its second Secession Day meeting. All committees will present their basic plans and their budgets for consideration. * OK * Tuesday, March 12 at 8, there will be a card party at the hall. Whist wil be played in the main hall and any games requested will be arranged in the newly finished Grange kitchen and dining room, All proceeds from this party go to restoration of the old Fippin Blacksmith Shop. Mr. John Gallegos Manager of the Nevada County Chamber of Commerce will speak on "what is a Chamber of Commerce” at the regular meeting of the Rough and Ready Chamber at the Rough and Ready Dinner House at 7:30 p.m; on Thursday, March 14. Members and friends of the chamber will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. The Dinner House closes at 7 and the Millers have invited the group to remain for their meeting. ** * FAY M.
