"I have lived gold and its
production: gold mining,
gold quartz, stamps, and flotation. ..Itis quite true that
millions of dollars (of gold)
has been taken out, but many
many more millions still remain awaiting new machinery or an increase in the price
of gold.”
Kilroy told that the first
hydroelectric power in California was generated in 1887
when Lake Vera water was
run through the Rome power
house.
Grass Valley had lights in
1887 and Smartsville in 1889.

Andthe miners had credit
with local. merchants, with
pay day the day when bills
were settled --a bag of candy
being sent home to the children by merchants in appreciation of the business.
Those were the days of the
saloon, too, Kilroy said.
And they furnished a full
meal free to the customers--all male, except for those
women who had their special
places of abode known as "pull

Those girls were good
spenders, though, Kilroy reported. And merchants liked
their purchases, for they always paid their bills,

For Talk
February is an appropriate
month for a talk on Kewpie
Dolls which were named for
Cupid, God of Love.
Mrs, Wanda Ramus entertained members of the Camellia City Doll Club with
a discussion on these little
happy go lucky dolls. She
brought to the club her collection of books and many
different kinds of Kewpies.
During 1910,11,12, and 13
many of the monthly magazines had whole pages of
kewpies in different poses.
Eighteen members and 8
guests attended the meeting
with the hostess prize of a
kewpie going to Marquerite
Ostrander of Al Tahoe, Calif.
The March meeting will
have a good old fashioned
Trade Table with members
exchanging doll items.

One call from you and
he’s on the job
T’S LATE at night and the one thing you need
most in this world is a prescription filled
for someone you love. You make a phone call
and a friend answers—your-: druggist. Within
minutes after your call, he’s on the job.
It takes a time like this to make you realize
how. much-you-depend-on this man, yet how
much you take him for granted. Your pharmacist means medicine when you need -it—
skillfully prepared. He means service—regardless of timé. His concern is for you, not only
as a customer, but as a friend.
