Mahon recently returned to
Canada from two years of
racing in Europe. He said
bicycle racing there is the

It is very big business,

Italy and accept a professional contract. The option
is in his pocket. He hasn't
yet decided on this, either.
Speaking about the local
race, Mahon said the course
in Nevada City is an ideal
test of the rider's strength ,
endurance and strategy.
Riders will have to be in
good shape. They will have
to pace their strength over
the whole race, andthe rider

Mahon pointed out that on
each of the 45 laps June 11,
riders will be climbing 90

In spite of that, Mahon
estimated it would take a

Mahon gave some advice
to spectators:
="“Watch the race on-a-hill

Spectators should wak around
the course during the race.
Watch the faces of the riders
as they pump uphill,"
Then he shook his head and
commented again on the
course;
“It's fantastic.

CONGRATULATIONSGold Reef land will continue to be newsworthy in
Nevada City in the immediate future.
The city, having sold 12
acres for the future Tahoe
National Forest headquarters
site, now is in the process of
completing the parceling of
small pieces of the Gold Reef
Mining Claim to adjacent
property owners whose land
overlapped the claim.
Monday night representatives of the ten property
owners involved and the city
council, trustees of the land,
reached agreement on apportioning costs of the distribution of Gold Reef
property.
The city will pay $405 of
the costs, It has already re'
ceivedin excess of that cost
through the sale of the 12
acres.”
The other costs, approximately $400, will be borne
by the property owners according to a formula set up
in the additional townsite act
for determining assessments
to cover expenditures of the
townsite.
Fees will range from approximately $25 per property
owner to $145 for the largest
parcel---about one and onehalf acre.
In addition, the council has
received a bid on the one reMaining unoccupied lot, a
three and one-quarter acre
site bounded on one side by
the Highway 49 freeway and
on all other sides by the back
lots of the aforementioned
property owners,
A resolution calling for sale
of that lot will be ready for
council action at its June
meeting, itwasindicated
Monday night.
The bid is $1300, about
$400 per acre. Bidder is Jack
Siegfried, surveyor who prepared the plat for the city.

The water level of Scott's

With 20, 950 acre feet behind the dam, things look

the prospect ofa shortage
