8 The Nevada County Nugget Wednesday, May 10, 1972 New Unity Shrine officers Robert Campton monument is dedicated Mother Nature provided the spectacular backdrop; History wrote the script and members of the William Bull Meek-William Morris Stewart Chapter No. 10, Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus comprised the dramatis personae for the dedication of the Campton monument, honoring Robert Campton for whom the town of Camptonville was named, Last, Saturday's ceremonies at Monument Lot in the small Yuba County town attracted several hundred visitors who came from many points to enjoy the events of the day. A traditional parade by the Clampers and area folk was followed by a more formal program which included music by The Esquires, under the direction of George Ferreira; invocation by the Rev. Stewart C, Potter, assistant pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Yuba City; the address: of welcome and _ introduction of guests by Judge Acton M. Cleveland who also gave a resume of the life and times of Robert Campton, Others on the program inclu¢~d Mrs, Louise D. Mousier, a g. and-niece of Robert Campton, who came from Santa Cruz to unveil the monument and tell of the Campton family; Harold J. Mrs, Engel pointed out that the everage contribution per letter sent was $1.03. Among the eight other counties in the association, the closest average was $.96 reached by Amador and Colusa counties, The total Nevada County contribution was close to $5,800, Mrs. Engel made her announcement at the bi-monthly luncheon meeting of the Nevada County Regional Planning Committee of SET at the National Hotel in Nevada City. Another important item of business at the meeting was the report by Gail el junior. at Nevada Union High School, on the anti-smoking program she recently presented to the fourth grades of several Nevada County Elementary Schools. In her program she used "Smokey Sam," a smoking mannequin loaned to Nevada County by SET. IOOF DELEGATES The Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 12, grand lodge session, will be held May 1419 at the Sacramento auditorium. Delegates are WarrenRidfinger, Charles Engle and Earnest Mason. The first degree will be conferred Thursday with all local members urged to attend. NU‘s land judging team took first place Nevada Union High School's FFA Land Judging team walked away with first place honors in the annual Mother Lode Land Judging Contest held at Cierra College.
Other schools participating were East Nicolaus, Amador and Woodland. Besides the first team place, two members of the NUHS group, Stan Baer and Cliff Kitts were first and second place high individual winners respectively. Their team coach is Roy Smith of the NUKS Ag Department. Personnel list is approved for NUHS year Nevada Union High School trustees on Monday approved the list of certificated personnel for 1972-73 which included 62 teachers, 15 probationary teachers and four first year tenure teachers, plus five administrators for NUHS and the Empire High School, Also approved was a new salary schedule for next year which included modest increases of less than five per cent. Mrs, Ruth L. Bowles, head of the English department, advised the board of her intention to retire. Her letter of commendation from the board will include the note that the board is particularly proud of its English department's record. A discipline problem was brought before the board but had not been processed through the administrators and was therefore returned to their jurisdiction for disposition. Chairman Charles Allert will hand out the diplomas at the Empire High School this year. It was noted that the new athletic complex is being selected by other schools to host the league competitions. The contest, annually sponsored by the Resource Conservation Districts, was hosted this year by the Nevada County Resource Conservation District. George Dyer, a member of the board of directors, handed out trophies and ribbons to contest winners, Ron Bryant and Ver] Gish, of the Sierra College faculty provided contest coordination. Recordings hit 1,474 total The.county recorder has reported the following transactions for April: — A total of 1,474 recordings divided as follows: deeds, 564; trust deeds, 287; reconveyances, 191; federal liens, 11; notices of completion, 13; mining claims, 4; separations, 8; survey maps, 5; parcel maps, 28; miscellaneous, 363. — Thirty-six births, 25 deaths and 15 marriages were recorded. — A total of $4,459.95 was collected in transfer taxes, The shares for the county and the incorporated cities were: county $4,255.41; Grass Valley $138.56; Nevada City, $65.98, NC trustees to open bids Bids for paving the playground at the elementary school and on a new pickup truck will be opened Wednesday evening by trustees y of the Nevada City School District, The bid openings is scheduled for 7:30 p.m, in the library of Seven Hills School.
