Hospital Open House Set
This is National Hospital
Week and Miners Hospital in
Nevada City is marking the
event by holding an’ open’house
toallow area residents a chance
to see the improvements that
~have been made at the local
facility.
The open house has been scheduled for Friday from 2-4 p.m.

The 21 bed hospital, which
was opened in 1940\by the Miners Association, was\purchased
by Sierra Hospital in june of
last year,
Timberline Meeting
The Timber Echoes T oastmistress Club held a luncheon meeting May 3 at the Bret Harte Inn.
President Donna Wadley presided over the short business
meeting.
Alta Smith was Topic mistress
and chose the appropriate subject of “Spring”. Guests present were Carrie Winters and
Charlene Klopenstein, whocaptured the Topic trophy.
Toastmistress for the meeting
was Emily Turner, who introduced the two speakers: Olga
McQuinn, who won the best
speaker trophy with her speech
called "Motivating the Unmotivated Student", and Myrita Phillips who spoke on the
"Citizen of the Year 1964, Isabel Heffelfinger”.
JewelReynolds, Leone Niehaus
and Carole Friedrich were evaluators.
The next meeting will be held
at'7:30 p.m., May 17 at the
Division of Forestry building.
Several members fromthe
Buttewood Toastmistress Club
are expected to attend, Guests
are welcome.
Deputy Visits
Evangéline Chapter No. 9,
Order of Eastern Star, held their.
fegular meeting last Tuesday,
with Worthy Matron, Alice Zimmermaén and Worthy Patron,
Wayne Fowler, presiding.
Ingrid Hager, Deputy Grand
Matron of the 13th District,
made her official visit. She
was escorted into-the chapter
and given a warm welcome by
the sixty members present,
Visiting Worthy Matrons and
Worthy Patron present were:

No. 40, Grass Valley; Carole
Waggoner, Placer Chapter,
Dutch Flat; Ann Nielsen and Kay
Nielsen, Pelton Chapter, Camptonville, A gift was presented
to Deputy Grand Matron Ingrid
Hager, by the Evangeline Chapter.
Refreshments were served in
the banquet room by Alice
Douglas and her committee,
“Mothers” were honored with
solos from Carol Burns and Joseph E, Day. Gifts were given
to the eldest mother, youngest
mother and mother with the most
children,The officers presented
Worthy Patron, Wayne Fowler,
with a birthday present.

TheGallery, 312 Commercial

open from 1:30 4:00 p. m.,
Wednesday through Sunday, until May 27, with an exhibit of
needle point art work by The

Since that time approximately
$18,000 has been expended in
renovation updating and inaccording to administrator, Mrs.
Florence Stark,
This includes everything from
modernizing and rearranging the
front office and waiting room to
the purchase of a new modern
autoclave toreplace the old
gas operated machine,
The emergency room, the
nursery, the lab, the x-ray and
the patients rooms have been
redecorated and improved and
in some cases new equipment
has been added,
