A generation of Golden Empire miners christened the attic ward "The Big Stope," which in mining terminology means an excavation from which ore is removed, either above or below a level in a series of steps. The Olsons will headquarter in the former nurses' station and treatment room. Their bedroom will be the space where Jones Hospital once took care of its newborn. Mrs. Geist and Mrs. Olson claim there will be some "communal living" but pointed out 26 rooms, four fire places, and four bathrooms offer privacy and sanctuary for the Geists and their four children, and for the visiting students.
