named vice-chairman of the
statewide Committee to Reelect Governor Brown.
Governor Edmund G, Brown

grateful" that Warren had
accepted the post.
Warren said he accepted
the campaign assignment
“because I believe (Brown's)
election is vital to the future of California."
Warren continued, “I am
greatly impressed by his outstanding record of achievement, Iamalso greatly impressed by the fact that he
is concerned not only with
the welfare of California
today, but also for the future.
"The vigorous programs
Governor Brown has developed in California are necessary ones. They are farsighted and progressive.
And they are being administered with extraordinary
responsibility. "

JOSEPH C, SHELL
The "Victory Wagon” is
rolling along the highways
and byways of California,
campaigners for gubernatorial candidateJosephC. Shell
said this week.
They referred to a traveling billboard in the form of
a cargotrailer, 40 feet long,
towed by a three axle tractor. Allsides urge the nomination of Shell for governor.
The vehicle is one ofa
fleet operated by Ted Violette, a former football
teammate of Shell at USC,
“With an empty truck?”,
the driver asked when Violette told him to start touring the state.
"Your load is Joe Shell”,
Violettetoldhim, "Deliver
him to Sacramento as governor of California."
KIRPAL SINGH
Kirpal Singh, conservative
Republican candidate for the
second congressional district, this week released his
platform.
The Roseville candidate
included the following international comments:
-"“Communism is at war
with us (both cold and hot)
on many fronts..We must
abandon the path of compromise..and fight with
all peaceful means possible
to defeat the forceful encroachment of this philosophy onthe uncommitted nations around the world.
"Socialism. ..is communism in disguise. ..It gravitates power into the hands
of a chosen few who rule the
country through bureaus. It
too must be fought.
“N ever in the history of
the world has a country that
has won a war paid sucha
penalty of being the victor
as has the United States
(through foreign aid). Let us
bring this to an orderly, but
quick stop.
"The United Nations charteris one of the best instruments of peace ever written,
Let us try to enforce it..
Since we have to pay for
more than 90 per cent of its
cost we need more than one
vote, All delinquent countries would be forced to pay
or lose their privileges.
“The Congress must demand a definite foreign policy from the administration,
As an independent and free
country, we are entitled to
have and follow a foreign
policy that is in the best interest of the U.S."

MARGARETTE B, MEGGS
_Write-in candidate Marggarette B. Meggs, running
for supervisor in District 4,
last week released her program:
"I will work to end the
policy of dictatorship by the
board of supervisors. evidenced by the lease-purchase method Of securing
funds to build the courthouse
annex andthe Truckee jail.
I will fight for the right of
every Nevada County resident to vote on matters involving the disbursement of
sums of $1, 25 million. This
right of vote is guaranteed to
the voter under the constitution andI mean to see that
it is-not stolen.
"I will fight for a county
controller. 33° counties in
California are operating,
very successfully, with the
in their 1960 report because
to allow the county to operate without a controller is
equivalent to giving the
county department heads a
“license to steal."
"I will fight to attract
light industry tothis county.
Light industry has scouted
this area but finding no zoning, nodata sheets, has quit
the area in disgust, forcing
our young people to seek
gainful employment in areas
away from their homes.
"I have the vision to see
how important Nevada
County can grow in the next
five years, especially with
the Federal lands being
made available to the
county at $2.50 an acre and
more importantly, I have
the courage to fight for the
right of the county to grow
into a prosperous area rather
than a welfare state.

ALAN CRANSTON
Cyril Magnin, president
of a San Francisco women's
fashion store chain, has accepted the post of Northern
California finance chairman
for the committee working
for the reelection of Alan
Cranston as state controller.
