Planned By
The Merchants* Committee
of the Nevada City Chamber
of Commerce Monday night
revealed plansto develop an
off-street parking program in
Nevada City.
Chairman Bill Briggs of the
Merchant's Committee told
chamber members his committee would like to acquire
three parking sites as soon
as possible.
First on the committee's
planned program is. the lot
adjacent to Ott's Assay Office on Main Street. Briggs
said the lot is close to the }
shopping center and will
make available spaces for
employes of Nevada City
firms, thereby freeing other
parking spaces even closer
to the center of town.
He said Spring Street behind the Broad Street stores .
is filled to capacity each
day. Second lot on the program is at the end of Spring
Street, on property now
owned by the state as freeway
right of way.
Third lot in the program
is one owned by the Native
Sons of the Golden West, on
Commercial Street.
The committee and other
members of the chamber of
commerce indicated they
will appear before the city
council Tuesday night to present a request for city aid in
preparing the lots for use.
Briggs said the merchants
are aware of losing ground
economically asa result of a
parking shortage. Business is
moving to shopping centers
and will continue to do so
unless the merchants act now
