Planned By The Merchants* Committee of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce Monday night revealed plansto develop an off-street parking program in Nevada City. Chairman Bill Briggs of the Merchant's Committee told chamber members his committee would like to acquire three parking sites as soon as possible. First on the committee's planned program is. the lot adjacent to Ott's Assay Office on Main Street. Briggs said the lot is close to the } shopping center and will make available spaces for employes of Nevada City firms, thereby freeing other parking spaces even closer to the center of town. He said Spring Street behind the Broad Street stores . is filled to capacity each day. Second lot on the program is at the end of Spring Street, on property now owned by the state as freeway right of way. Third lot in the program is one owned by the Native Sons of the Golden West, on Commercial Street. The committee and other members of the chamber of commerce indicated they will appear before the city council Tuesday night to present a request for city aid in preparing the lots for use. Briggs said the merchants are aware of losing ground economically asa result of a parking shortage. Business is moving to shopping centers and will continue to do so unless the merchants act now FUZZY THE RAM..Is the cooperative assistant to Janice Paul (L) and Diane Rolph, Chicago Park 4-H members, in their demonstration "Healthier Sheep Through Proper Medication". The girls were awardedablue certificate for their efforts at the 4H Regional Demonstration Day held recently at El Dorado County High School, Placerville. Nevada Coutny was well represented at the annual event. NC Parking Program Merchants to get additional parking. Grass Valley has the same problem, he said. One problem brought before the chamber isthe parking of persons having doctor or beauty shop appointments. Itwas pointed out that these people will use the off-street facilities when completed, leaving street parking for } those whose stay is of shorter: duration. Roy E Tremoureux Rites Held Saturday Tremoureux, 76, at funeral services held in the HooperWeaver Mortuary. Tremoureux, treasurer of Alpha Hardware Company, for years had been a civic and business leader in Grass Valley. He died Wednesday . He was the first commander of the Grass Valley American Legion Post, and was for 50 years a member of the Masonic Order. Tremoureux was superintendent of the Champion Mines near Nevada City until the mine closed, Heservedin World War I. The civic leader was the husband of Mable Tremoureux, father of Roy and grandfather of Blair and Roy Tremoureux, all Grass Valley residents. Cremation followed the mortuary services.
