An old time country store
It's a. "country store’. .
that's for sure. Why, there's
even a big old cracker barrel .
full of crackers standing along .
side the counter!
You walk into that old building. . . .built 118 years ago, .
to be exact. . . .and you walk
back to a totally different era.
It is full of antiques and items
for the avid collector of artifacts and memorabilia from a
gentler time. . . .a time that
grandmothers and grandfathers
fondly recall.
"Carli's Country Store" is
the place, and you'll find it at
110 West Main Street in Grass
Valley. 7
Mrs. Frank (Paula) Carli, a
pert and pretty young lady, is
the proprietor. She and Frank
opened the shop in June of 1971
. . . -about one year after they
came to Grass Valley from the
Bay Area where they had a
rental properties business.
Frank is the manager of the
body shop at Meier's ChevroletOldsmobile agency out on Brunswick Road.
Paula is a "Navy brat" anda .
native of Rhode Island. . .with ;
her parents she has done a good
bit of traveling around, and was
well acquainted with Hawaii
while it was still a territory.
Frank was born in Santa-Clara
County and is a real booster
for California. The couple enjoy
skiing. . . .snow, in the winter;
and water skiing in the summer.
They engage in these lively
sports atevery opportunity. "It'saround — fantastically handy
here," Paula says.
Their home in Grass Valley
reflects their mutual interest
in things Victorian. . .they are
gradually and lovingly restoring
the “old Tupper house" at 815
West Main Street. . . .and before too long it will once more
be a "showplace" just as it
was SO many years ago.
In addition to the wonderful
inventory of items interesting
to the beginner in collecting
as well as to the "old pro,"
the Carlis offer some rather
unique services. . . .they refinish furniture beautifully and.
do expert chair canning; and,
if you happen to have an old
telephone around the place that's
minus a vital part or two..
they can get it for you!
Presently on display at the

perhaps the "oldest" item currently available for purchase.

their local source of supply.
If you are in the market for
any of the items mentioned..
