And trucks are growing even
more important each year as
California’s economy diversifies, and people and industry
spread into the lesser populated
areas of the state,
Back in 1930, when the depression first began to bite, it
took only one truck to serve
the needs of over 57 Californians, But despite hard times,
the demand for trucks grew so
that by 1934 every 52 Californians needed one truck, according to C.T.A, records,
By World War II's beginning,
that figure had changed to 40
persons for each truck, and by
the early post-War period, in
1949, California's dependence
upon highway transport had
grown so that 24 Californians
were.depending on the carrying Capacity of each truck in
this state,
Today, there are 20 million
people: here demanding truck
service, and the industry must
provideone truck for every

Going on a trip this summer? To avoid
the disappointment and inconvenience of
finding ‘‘No Vacancy”’ signs at your destination, call ahead for reservations.
Whether you’re camping or planning to
stay ina motel or hotel, knowing you have
a reservation makes travelling more carefree. I think you’ll find that an inexpensive
phone call can buy a lot of peace of mind.
Here’s one sure way to make your telephone directory more useful. The next
time you have to look up a number, circle
it, check it, underline it or put some kind
of mark by it. You'll find that ‘“‘personalizing’’ your own phone book not only
makes the number easier to refer to when
you’re dialing, but also makes it quick
and easy to find that number the nex
time you need it. 5
