8 The Nevada County Nugget Wed. May 2, 1973 INSTALLATION of the Nevada City Elks was April 14. SNMH expectant parents class Sierra’ Nevada Memorial Hospital will be offering classes for expectant parents on three Thursday nights, May 3, 10 and 17 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. These classes are without charge and conducted in the solarium at the hospital. Included in the classes will be lecture, discussie and films covering the _ topies_. of pregnancy, labor and delivery and care in the _ hospital following the baby’s birth. There will also be a tour of the labor and delivery rooms with a peek into the nursery. All expectant parents are cordially invited. Cinco dé Mayo celebration set The Sierra College Library will commemorate the Cinco de Mayo Celebration the week of April 30 May 4. Inspired by the great murals of Diego Rivera, the Library is creating a 12 x 8 foot mural in recognition of Mexican culture. Special taped recordings and phono discs of Mexican music will be available for checkout. MexicanAmerican oriented films will be shown daily at 11 a.m., 12 Noon, 1 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m. in room 2a of the Library. The public is cordially invited to attend this free film festival. The film schedule is as follows: Monday, April 20, North from Mexico a historical approach to the MexicanAmerican from the days of the roaming Spanish explorers; Tuesday, May 1, MexicanAmericans: Quest For Equality a moving account by the noted author and educator, Ernesto Galarza, of the MexicanAmerican’s unceasing efforts to achieve full equality; Wednesday, May 2, Chicano a film which explores the various manifestations of bias, oppression, and discrimination affecting the MexicanAmerican; Thursday, May 3, Los Siete De La Raza a film concerning the oppression of the Third World community in the Mission District of San Francisco; and Friday, May 4, El Teatro Campesino the story of . a traveling theater group.

Smith (no relation), contributes the following recipe for a tasty meatless dish which she originated for her family during the World War ‘II rationing period..which created many problems for the average family. She advises the ground beef may be added if desired. INGREDIENTS: % cup cooking oil 1-% cups chopped onion 1-% cups chopped celery 1 can creamed corn 1 can tomatoes 1 can small olives 1 Tsp “Grandma’s” Chili powder dissolved in water 1 cup milk 1 cup milk 142 cup cornmeal PREPARATION: Brown onions and celery lightly in cooking oil, add remaining ingredients, mix well and cook five to ten minutes stirring to prevent sticking. Salt to taste and pour into baking dish. Bake until brown and fairly firm. Cut in squares and serve hot. If you wish to serve as a “pie” use a shallow prefer a “loaf’’ use a deeper baking dish. tin pan; if you Fine arts festival Beginning May 16, Sierra College will present the second annual FINE ARTS FESTIVAL, with demonstrations, programs and exhibits concluding on May 19th. Among the major evening attractions are: the Festival Pops Concert, the Sacramento Civic Ballet, and the Sierra Drama Department production of “The Lion in Winter.” Events of special interest to elementary students, as well as adults, include the Sierra Children’s Theatre production of ‘‘Have Fun, Will Travel’, a Festival of Animated Films, a special planetarium program and tours through the Life Science Museum. In conjunction with the regular Student Art Exhibit in the Gallery, the Pacific Western Traders will present an _ outstanding collection of American Indian Arts, and the Competitive Art Show will be housed in the Campus Center.
