in their search for the slayers of Robert Franks,14 year old son of a
Chicago millionaire. The boy’s mutilated body was found in a .
swamp at the same hour when his father was following orders and
waiting in a designated spot to pay the ransom demand for $10,000.

Fremont Older, widely known editor of the San Francisco Call,

getting some historical data together for a special edition of his
newspaper. His interest in California history was well known.
Mrs. W.T. Golding was elected t; Pete Purcell, vice
: and Alex Dewar, secretary of “Nevada Countyans”, an
organization of former residents then making their homes in
Southern California. The group came into existence at the fifth
annual reunion held on the spacious grounds of Mrs.
Champion Crandall’s estate near Monrovia. Among speakers on
that auspicious occasion was W.F. Prisk, president of Union
Publishing Co.

The Nevada Union High
School class of 1964 is planning a
10 year reunion at Alta Sierra
Country Club on July 6.
The reunion committee is
having difficulty’ finding addresses for the following people:

The club voted to assist the
Social -Advocates for Youth
program by landscaping at the
old Seven Hills School. Hulda
Kopp is in charge of the project.
Mrs. Bansemer talked about
‘ small plants suitable for dish
gardens and demonstrated their
planting procedures. The June
13 meeting will -be at Peggy
Chrysler’s home. os

_ Working ona grant donated by
the American Cancer Society,
the Nevada County Health
Department will hold its second
nesday, May 29. This clinic is
free to the general public.
Cervical cancer is completely
curable when diagnosed early.
The PAP test is simple, painless
and takes only a few minutes.

Other services available from
the American Cancer Society
include transportation to
treatment centers in
Sacramento for cancer patients.
Hospital equipment is supplied
on loan for home use. The Order
of Eastern Star makes dressings
once a week for distribution to
cancer patients. Voluntéers who
have had a Larngectomy will
make home visits to give speech
therapy to Larngectomy
patients.
Reach To Recovery is a
program designed to help
+
mastectomy patients adjust to a
new life. These women work
with the patient’s doctor. Each
of these volunteers has had a
mastectomy herself. For further

Hribal charged with NC theft
James Edwin Hribal was
charged with burglary by
Nevada City police Monday and
booked into the county jail.
Hribal, 19, of rural Nevada
City was arrested after his
fingerprints were found near the
rear entrance of Len’s Surplus
store in Nevada City that was
burglarized on May 3, according
to Police Chief Jim Moon. Moon
said that the surcpect’s fingerprints were found near the rear
door of the surplus store and
that the door had been forced .
open.
Brass fittings, a drill and’
other items were removed from
the store and the merchandise
has not been recovered, said
Moon. The police, however, are
continuing their investigation
according to the chief.
