The San Juan_Ridge~Riders
are busy getting-ready far the
endurance race-.they -will
present June 2. Over_100entries
are expected this year; “more
than competed last year: Food
for the riders will be prepared
by the Cootiettes, andthe public
may buy dinner for a reasonable
price. Steak will be the entree.
Sterling silver belt buckles will
be awarded to those who-finish
in the allotted time. A large
trophy will be given the~first
rider in, with smaller trophies
and placques awarded-to-other
categories. Thé-race_starts and
finishes at Dodges Dry Yard on
Tyler-Foote Crossing road, and
dinner will be “Servedthere.

Church June 3, starting at 2:00
p.m. A memorial fund was
started in 1963 for members and
friends of the church, which was
earmarked at that time for a
church school building. Because
there is and has been no
adequate water supply for such
a building, the decision. was
taken to use the fund, by now
grown to a respectable sum, for
restoration of the old church
itself. Sale of pews, which may
still be purchased, has added
considerable to the fund. The
restored Estey organ, a muralbehind the altar, and those pews
which have been purchased, will
be dedicated. Musical numbers
will be performed by Leilani
Greenly, Jake Dabis, Jan and
d Susie Gabers, and Edith

Yolanda Reader and her
sister, Angie Briggs, left last
week to visit relatives in Italy.
They will be gone for three
weeks or so; right now they are
in Rome, seeing the sights.
Their fater, Dominic Gilione,
who is-now 85 years old, came'to
this country about 60 years ago
with his bride. After working in
the East for several years, he
made his way to California. He
ranched in Amador County for a
while, then came to Grass
Valley where he has resided off
and on about 50 years. At one
time he worked at Pete
Andreotti’s sawmill at Hills
Flat, now long gone, and was a
miner at the Idaho-Maryland
Mine. Mrs. Reader and her
sister will not -need an
interpreter to help them
converse with their cousins as
the are both fluent in Italian.
The baseball team from San
Juan Ridge Union school
traveled to Chicago Park
Wednesday, the 9th, for a game
and came home happily
victorious, boasting of the
score: 21 to 7. I believe they play
Ready Springs next week.

The Air Force plans to
distribute a Request for
Proposal (RFP) on or about
May 24 for the construction of
100 duplexes (200 military
family housing units) as Beale
AFB, Proposals on the contract,
programmed for $4,873,000, will
be submitted on July 24.
All offerors requesting the
RVP-F04666-73-B-995 package
will be charged $25 for one set of
site plans on sepias and one copy
of the Statement of Work. For an
additional copy of the Statement
of Work, a $5 fee will be charged.
Prospective offerors may
submit inquirees by writing or
calling (collect calls not
accepted) Capt. Vincent M.
Ciampa, Procurement Division,
Beale AFB, Calif. 95903, area
code 916, 634-2951.
No RFP package will be
mailed until a check, made
payable to the Treasurer of the
United States, has been received
by the Procurement Division, at
Beale.
Work performed under the
contract, lasting 540 calendar
days, shall consist of, but. is not
limited to the following:
Design and construction of 200
family housing units with patios,
exterior storage, individual
forced warm air heating
systems with central air
conditioning (electric) and the
installation of government
furnished ranges, refrigerators,
garbage disposers, dishwashers
and water heaters.
Design and construction of
site improvements will include
streets and drives, curbs and
gutters, street and house walks,
utility distribution and service
lines, street lights, rough and
finish grading, surface and
underground storm drainage
and landscaping.
The Air Force will provide an
acceptable site design although
the use of this design is not
mandatory and proposers are
free to modify any portion of
this design or develop a totally
