Mr. Chappie, Mr. Kennedy, and Mr. Noxon are the candidates for our 6 Assembly District. * * * * It's no wonder the Grange 16th Anniversary Dinner last Friday drew a big crowd, Everyone who know Mrs. Mary Moneta's cooking would want to be there. Mary was chairman of the dinner crew and did all of the Chick'n Cookn' herself. She can surely do it to perfection. It was a stormy evening but guests came from far and near. Visiting dignitaries included Mr. and Mrs, Jay Dean of Loomis Grange, Mr. and Mrs, Edwin Koster of Sierra Grange, Eafle Harper of Ostrom Grange, and Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Cook of Ranner Grange. Also present were Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Briggs of Rio Linda Grange who have demitted to Rough and Ready and Mrs, Mable Scherrup who began her Grange activities with the Riverside Grange 30 years ago. Mrs. Signe Enright, Mables long time friend and neighbor was absent. She is galivanting around the country meeting her Congressmen and exciting things like that. She was pictured with Bizz on the steps of the Capitol _in a recent news picture. The lecturers program for the evening included two vocal numbers by Mrs. Olyve Simmons’ accompanied by Mrs. Edith Williams, A quintette costarring Marguerite Barnett, June McPherson, Alice Licht, Don Goodwin, and Bill Morton who sang This Land is My Land. Mrs. Irene Morton who is Grange pianist accompanied them and also did the ever beautiful Clair de Lune. George Raymond did an original poem and Earle Harper did Tom's Mom in honor of Mother. Mrs, Mary Burns provided decorations in a spring theme complete with little watering cans to mark each place. She also provided two tables of the Grange Ladies handi— é : j ‘ 3 a Sure hope the weatherman can figure out when Memorial Day is going to be. We're scheduled for another of those nice 3 (almost 4) day weekends. Everyone starts Friday these days and since Memorial Day is to be Monday May 29 that means a nice 4 day holiday. I liked Pat Jones comment about the Cinco de Mayo being celebrated on the 6 (seis) but even that isn't as bad as Memorial Day being the 29. Habits of 60 odd years (and many of them were) are hard fo break. * * * * * * The Charles Tangers and the Scott Lichts are both relatively new in our neighborhood and both are from Southern California as we are, The Tangers are from Hawthorne and the Lichts from Torrance. The Lichts spent their last long weekend there visiting family and friends. Both families had their children home for the Mothers Day Weekend. Both had Mothers Day Dinners out together (with their own families that is) on Saturday evening. The Tanger family went to Lake Tahoe and the Licht family had dinner uptown, Mrs. Licht says their trip South two weeks ago was new and different. They took the new #5 highway and it was like flying thru space. At one place they saw no buildings for 72 miles. They left the usual freeway route at Stockton and returned to it at Bakersfield. Saved about 50 miles she thought. She thought the scenery was beautiful and quite different for crowded California. Better go quick though it will probably be lined with shops you can't see over in a few weeks. * * * * * * Mrs. Jenny Brown is out of the hospital. She needs a little care tho’ and the present stop on her road to recovery is the Holiday Hills Convalescent Hospital. % * * * The Allan Browns spent a pleasant weekend in the Bay area just before Mothers Day, Margaret said it was real fun tho' they went for some extensive tests for Mr. Brown, They found time for some long anticipated sight seeing and the weather was lovely. Daughter Beverly and her family were home for the Mothers Day weekend. . * * * : * * * * Postmaster Mrs. Helen Avery is back on the job. Mrs, Betty Decker who has been carrying the load while Helen was recuperating from her recent surgery is a lovely person to have around but isn't it nice to see Helens smiling face back on the job. * * * * * * Everyone has been asking what is happening to Secession Day this year, Well its had its ups and downs. The selected Chairman was unable to do the job so Brownie has taken over and will carry on. Last year's celebration is the basis for the program but everything is going to be just a bit bigger and better. Just as a beginner the plays this year will have a stage again. Not grand but rough and ready and with sound so that you may hear as well as see what is going on. Mr, Don Litchfield volunteered his huge (8 x 16) truck trailer. We may have to arrange our scenes to fit the stage but that will only add to the fun. Now that the big day for the Old Nevada Theatre is behind us, and very successful it was too in spite of the rain, we can concentrate on the Saga of Rough and Ready so be prepared to say yes when your telephone rings. Why not call me and volunteer. We need 8 dancing girls. Thanks! E * * * * * * The Grange Ladies conducted a Bake Sale on the steps of Bills Market that very wet Saturday. Contrary to reasonable predictions it was a great success in spite of the many who couldn't make it because of the rain. The contributors were Mmes Baer, Bixler, Broadus, Brown (Mar-, garet), Buck, Burns, Deardorf, Devereaux, Dunbar, Harwood, Hester, Lanzendorfer, Lehman, and Licht. Mrs. Alice Licht was Chairman of the bake and the take was $46.25. I didn't even get back from my stint at the House Tour in time to get a cake. * * * * : * * The kids at Ready Springs did all right too. Even though they were getting a free Car wash, courtesy the weatherman, 25 customers showed up with their cars, Coffee, cakes, and hotdogs tasted extra good in the miserable weather. The Summer Recreation. Program has amassed approximately $600. They needed about $800 to carry on the program. They may schedule a money maker for later.
