Sounding Board . WHAT %. # JOAN WIEGMAN: We're going to stay home and work on our house two days and I have to go to Oakland Saturday for my 17-year-old daughter, Dawn's orientation. Dawn is going to Italy for two months this summer as part of a 12-man 4-H team caravan. She leaves June 2] and has a week of intensive training to speak Italian, Then she and the other 11 will spend two. weeks each with two host Italian families whose children are members of PPP, the Italian equivalent of 4-H. At the end of the family visits the 4-Hers will tour Europe for about three weeks, returning home the end of August. Dawn has been taking every job she can get, gardening, , sewing, doing housework, and other things to earn her half share of the cost for this trip. She must know at least 500 words of Italian before she leaves, read a number of pamphlets on what to expect and how the students are to behave as ambassadors for American youth. She really has a lot to do before she leaves.
