DOLL CLUBS ENTERTAINED The Camellia City Doll Club, which includes members from Sacramento, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Lincoln, Yuba City, Grass Valley and NevadaCity, entertained members of District II of the United Federation of Doll Clubs, Inc., at the Hotel El Mirador in Sacramento on May 7 and 8. Skyroom, with Mrs. Byra Wreden of Atherton, California. regional president, giving. a_ short welcoming speech and also her ~yearly report. Mrs. Wanda Ramus, president of the Camellia City Doll Club, also welcomed the members and guests. The invocation was given by Lenore Coughlin of Nevada City. At 3:30 in the afternoon informative slide pictures of dolls were shown by Lewis Sorenson of Santa Cruz with descriptive remarks on each picture. Mr. chal of Carmichael, remarks by Regional President Byra Wreden and Wanda Ramus, president of the Camellia City Doll Club. Following’ the brunch a very instructive talk on ceramics was given by Martha Farnsworth of Lincoln and.Wanda Ramus of Sacramento to the members .and~— guests. These artists told of the making of doll parts from making the molds through pouring of clay or slip to the firing of -the finished article, Their part of the program was entitled “My Kiln and I.” Favors for the Saturday luncheon were pecan nuts painted with faces to which hair, scarfs, earrings and hats had been added. The hats were removable so they could be used for small dolls. OF COURSE..there is the hardluck guy..he tried to place a call to Beale Air Force Base..the operator made her mysterious motions over the dialing apparatus.silence..finallya voice said "“operatah..this is the operatah, what numbah are you calling?" "Beale Air Force Base," saidthe GV gal. "Wheah's that?" saidthe distant voice. Whereupon the caller saidto the GV gal, “How come they hire operators from the south towork in Marysville ?. Everyone knows that Beale is out of Marysville." And the distant voice said, "Well, I shuah don't know wheah Marysville is, this is Tampa, Floridah." END.. SCHOOL is almost out..a few of the teachers are retiring after giving many years of service to the communities. A rather nostalgic air prevails..friends that were made over the years will be going their seperate ways after graduation
. .the halls of ivy will no longer resound with their shouts, their laughter..the elementary schools will sit all lonesome (much to the delight of the overworked, tired teachers) but still, there is nothing more silent than anempty school..some of the youngsters will move away, the rest, andsome new ones too, will return in the Fall.. In the dining room of the Hughes homea beautiful chinese cutwork tablecloth was used with an artistic arrangement of roses from the garden of Mrs. Sedgley Jory: Former past-presidents and others who poured were MMES. John Lastova, Leo Hughes , EjnarBeck, Chas. Everhart, Wm. Price and Chas Fowler. Mrs. Wm. Briggs displayed the Persial rug which is to be soldto the highest bidder for the benefit of the Sierra Nevada Hospital. The delicious hand-decorated cake, made and donated by Mrs. Ejnar Beck, was won by Mrs. John Sbaffi. Those who served on the committee were: MMES. Emest Kittredge, Earl Farmer, Wm. Price, Sedgley Jory, R.D: Brisbane, O, F. Helmkamp, John Lastova, Walter Guddal, and Bradley Legg. The garden club wishes to thank those who attended. On display were many beautiful flower arrangements brought in by mem. bers of the club. These were . judged by Mrs. Marjorie . Lagerstrom and Mrs. Myrtle Kimberlin -who gave us some good ideas on the use of form and color in making arrangements. All members Were urged to enter an exhibit in the Colfax Garden Club Spring Flower Show. Refreshments were served 29 members and guests. This annual night of dancing was held in honor of the graduation class receiving their College of Do Si Dos and Allemande Lefts, Bachelor of Square Dancing certificates. Juanita Bryon designed and baked a cake in replica of the dresses which the ladies of the club wear while dancing. Refreshments were heartly welcomed by approximately 25 couples which attended the May 14 celebration at the Hennessy School Auditorium.
