4 ‘The Nevada County Nugget
MOBILE HOMES ON PRIVATE
PROPERTY
We had quite a large crowd
last Sunday at the Grass Valley
Mobile Village Clubhouse, when
all our members from several
areas met to hear our president
Mr. Herbert Hugo, tell us about
the three bills which were then
in the Assembly Revenue and
Taxation Committee, and coming
up for a hearing on Tuesday
the 20th at Sacramento.
Mr. Mike Kass told us some
of the difficulties their people
in El Dorado county had been
having, and what had been done

to educate the city and county
officials on the extra revenue
brought into their communities
by the mobilehome owners, and
told us some of the changes
in the thinking of these officials
in the past three months since
their little organization (approx.
34 people) joined with our Golden State Mobilehome Owners
League Inc, with its thousands
of members, who comprise many
voters in all the Assemblymen
and Senator's districts and we
have found they are beginning to
set up and take notice, and listen
to what we have to say.

our meetings here with our Nevada County officials, and the
good cooperation we have had
with them, and how nice it was
when people can get together
and talk things over listening
and understanding both sides of
our problems.
Gladys Harper, this writer and
director of Region #11, spoke
on the meeting which had been
held two Sundays before to alert
our members to the three dangerous bills then being considered, and how every one had been
so good to write letters of protest to all the members on the
_ Assembly Revenue and Taxation
Committee of which Mr. Wm.
Bagley was chairman, and the
replies from some of these to
our letter writers; I believe the
committee was receiving over
500 letters apiece in protest to
these bills.

Mr. Herbert Hugo, our new
president, will be there and Mr.
Chuck Anderson from our insurance also, so if any of you need
insurance, bring ' your policies
and compare the value and benefits, and see if you do not feel
that ours is the very best. And
another thing, our organization
has done is to certainly make
the other insurance companies

is trying to get onthe bandwagon,

Feel Crowded?
If it seems to be getting a
little crowded these days, consider:
The world’s population is
growing by about 2.2 persons
per second, 132 per minute,
190,000 a day, and more than
1.3 million a week. The 2.2
gain is based on 3.9 births and
just under 1.7 deaths each
second.
The figures, garnered chiefly from United Nations
sources by the World Population Data Sheet, indicate a
global population on. July 1
more, since no one. really
knows how-many ple there
are in Red China. Some estimates top the UN ae for
that nation by 50 million.
Whatever we who have
been around awhile may
think of this old a reg today,
it’s certainly inviting a lot of
newcomers.
LARGEST SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET—Coils of the
world’s largest superconducting magnet are lowered into their
steel yoke at the AEC’s Argonne National Laboratory near
Chicago. These coils, which weigh 110 tons, operate at
temperatures near absolute zero, about 451 degrees below
zero, Fahrenheit. At these temperatures the magnet generates
18.5 kilogauss (a unit of magnetic field strength) with
essentially no consumption of electricity. The magnet will be
used with the world’s largest bubble chamber for detecting
high-energy atomic particles. (Argonne National Laboratory.

Gallup poll
Approximately three out of
four Americans would be willing
to pay more taxes if the money
were used for programs to improve the natural environment,
according to results of a recent
Gallup Poll, The survey, commissioned by the National Wildlife Federation, also shows that
the same ratio favor setting
aside additional public lands for
national parks, bird sanctuaries,
and wildlife refuges.
The effects of air and water
pollution, soil erosion, and destruction of wildlife were of
"deep concern" to half of those
interviewed, while one-third
