Grass Valley Auto Dismantlers will not be moving to Whiting Street as had been previously proposed. Owners Bob and Beverly Boxwell appeared before the planning commission Monday along with about 30 residents of the Whiting Street area with Boxwell telling those present he know longer is interested in the former Sierra Masonry property on Whiting. One stated that “junk yards are a place that harbor criminals’. ‘According to Roberts he also voiced displeasure with a news article in The Union which told of his plans to move from East Main Street to Whiting. Apparently he felt the article stirred up area residents. city policy that the statement be prepared at the applicants expense by an outside consultant firm. After making his statements Boxwell left the meeting but the others stayed to ask about down zoning the parcel from C-2 “other commercial to R-2 urban medium density.” They were informed that the proceedure would involve a General Plan Amendment and amending the zoning ordinance and would again probably require an EIR.
