By Fay M. Dunbar 273-2934 Mrs, Sue Fay, who is a nurse at Nevada General Hospital, is spending some time there, not working. Mrs, Fay fell last Sunday night at home and broke her ankle, [ler neighbors, the Thomases, got her to the hospital, Mrs, Fay's young daughter Pam is visiting with-her friend Sue Thomas for awhile, A badly broken ankle is not a thing to take lightly but Sue's condition is good and she would welcome visitors, Mrs, Helene Hurlbut has just completed a three day showing of Rough and Ready Toll House Antiques with the Nevada County Liberal Arts Commission Antique Show and Sale. Helene says it was hard work, especially getting the exhibit ready for showing, Her real problem, however, was her little.dog who had to be locked up at home, The Rough and Ready Fire Dept. Auxiliary will hold its regular meeting Monday, June 5th, at the Grange Hall, The evening will start with a potluck dinner at 7:30 p.m. The ladies are all to bring their favorite dish and a pencil and paper to copy recipes Each dish is to be accompanied by its recipe, Everyone is asked to bring their own service. Bread and butter and beverages: will be provided by the Auxiliary. : The active firemen of Rough and Ready's new Fire Company will be guests of honor, These men, who give so much of their time evenings and week-ends, are Al Moniz, Fire Chief, Bill Bursill, Assistant Fire Chief, Rich Avery, Jack Bixler, T, B, Broadus, Doug Gilpin,Sam Harwood, Don Litchfield, Don Long, Don Moore, Art Phelps, Ron Prows, George Staidl, Bill Thomas and Giles Wilbanks, All ladies of the community are urged to participate, The program for the Auxiliary meeting will be a demonstration of cake decorating by Mrs, Pauline Berg of Grass Valley who teaches this art, The ladies will finish the week with a Rummage Sale, June 9th at Serra Hall in Grass Valley from 9:00 a.m, to 4:00 p.m. Work Day will be June 8th, It will only be a one day sale but that day will be filled with surprise specials throughout the day. A lot of rummage has accumulated since the Spring Sale and anyone who wants to add to this collection may do so by calling Mrs. Marie Broadus 273-9341, Mrs, Dorothy Hicks 273-8969 or Mrs, Patricia Litchfield 273-9361. Mr. Everett Burkhard is away at school in Syracuse, New York, His wife Faye, daughter Linda and son Donald find the time very long. The school is a concentrated six week special course on Air Conditioning, Mr. Burkhard is béing sent from Beale Air Force Base where he is a civilian employee. He has been waiting several years for this very special opportunity. He is one of two men being sent from California, Mrs, Helen Avery had a birthday last Friday, She didn't say just which birthday it was but whatever the year, it’s becoming, Helen is our Postmaster here in Rough and Ready, Husband Richard took her out for an evening on the town, Rough and Ready 4-H Club will hold a Club level Achievement night on June 15th at the Grange Hall, This is our club's first year for their own Achievement Night, The Club is extending an invitation to everyone in the community to see these presentations, Mrs, Burkhard, club leader for 1967-68, says even if you have no children in 4-H you will be pleased and surprised at the splendid work these youngsters are doing. Electrical Pins, Record Book Awards, and Honors earned for 4-H Caps will be presented. A full day's program of activities for the youngsters has been planned for Rough and Ready Secession Days celebration on July 2nd, The "fun and games” are to be held in "Kidsville", a fenced field just off Hwy. 20, and are being sponsored by the Rough and Ready 4-H Club, A "Twister" King and Queen will be selected and crowned each hour, There will be sack races, sno cones, water balloons, Dunk the Miner, and a fish pond filled with treasures, The 4-Hr's are making replicas of the Flag of the Republic of Rough and Ready to take home as a souvenir of a day's fun, This “Twister” game was new to me and, except for the fact that I'm too old to bend like a pretzel, it sounds like lots of fun, It's liable to prove the attraction of the day — for watching that is! Grass Valley County 4-H tions Club Exhibit Day Back Yard Sale The annual Nevada County 4-H Exhibit Day and Barbecue will be held Saturday, June 24, and June 25, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, general chairmen Bob and Pam Lester announced today, The schedule for the two days is as follows: Saturday June 24, 8:00 AM Grounds Open 8:00-12:00 Coffee and donuts served till noon, 9:00 AM _ Judging Starts 12:00 Sandwiches Served 1:00 PM Judging continues 5:00 PM Grounds Close 8:00 PM Achievements Sunday June 25 8:00 AM Grounds Open . 10:00 AM _ Club booths open 11:30 AM ___ Barbecue served 1;00 PM Games Arena 4:30 PM Grounds Close The Grass Valley Lions Club will conduct its 2nd annual Back Yard Sale on Saturday, June the 3rd in the old Farber Ford building, located at Hills Flat in Grass Valley. Singers, 3:45 p.m., Chancel Ch, 7:30 p.m, The first Nevada City Antique Show, sponsored by the Liberal Arts Commission drew over 700 paid admissions with another 300 paid admissions tothe house tourand put some $1,000 into the fund to purchase the old opera house. Nineteen antique dealers from Nevada City and as far away as San Francisco displayed their wares to the public. Many of the visitors were from out of the area, indicating that succeeding antique shows may be one of the best new ways toattract people to Nevada County.
