Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Fisk's
granddaughter,. Sandra: Hanson,
.entered her first art show this
past month and walked off with
the top prize. The Merchants
Art Show held on the K Street
Mall in Sacramento awarded
Sandra. $125 for her acrylic
® painting, which I understood
“© Jooks like an Egyptian tapestry.
Sandra put in 70 hours on this
original work, and her grandparents and all of us are very
‘proud of her.
The Merchants Art show in
Sacramento includes art from’
elementary school through col' clege. Sandra also won first
_ prize in her college classifica: tion for one of her etchings.

The Washington area was
without electric power on
Thurday from 9:45 a.mto3p.m.
Pacific Gas and Electric had informed us a few days before
that they would be doing maintenance on the line and turning
off the power would be necessary to do this work.

With no power on Thursday,
our school teacher, Mrs. Hornsby thought that would be a good
day to take the children on a
field trip. So with the help of
a couple of mothers and their
cars, Mrs. Hornsby was able to
take all of the children to
William Land Park in Sacramento for a picnic, a visit tothe
zoo and Fairy Tale Land. From
my first grader [heard the story
of "Mrs. Ostrich" and her egg;
"Mrs. Monkey" who dropped her
baby; and many other activities
of the day.
TERRI SAYLORS: Yes, it should
certainly help our foreign policy. As long as we can keep up
communications we havea
better chance for peace.
GARY.DUNGER: Yes, better relations should result to help
solve the problems of our two
countries,

The Washington Community
Club is sponsoring the children
of Washington for roller skating lessons at LaBarr Meadows
Roller Rink. Lessons are given
by Mrs. Glass each Monday
night. The children seem to be
doing well, building up their confidence along with their skill.

the parsonage built in 1906 into

Senior citizen
tax help due
here June 9
A representative of the Franchise Tax Board will be in Grass
Valley on Friday, June 9 toassist
California senior citizens infiling claims for benefits under
the Senior Citizens Property
Tax Assistance Law, The representative will be at the Veterans Memorial Puilding, 225
South Auburn Street.
The law provides for a reimbursement of a portion of the
property taxes paid by Californians who are over 62 years
of age, own and reside in their
own homes, who have paid the
property taxes for the current
year, and who have income of
$10,000 or less, Claims must
be filed no later than Oct. 15,
1972,
Approximately $8 million was
paid out in reimbursements to
56,000 senior citizens last year.
Claimants should be aware that
reimbursements cannot be made
until after July 1. 197?
Hackett work
to be shown
The work of Richard Fackett
will be displayed through June
at The Gallery in Nevada City
with a reception for the artist
set for Sunday, June 4.
The Gallery is open Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30
to 4:30 p.m. and the Sunday reception will be held during the
same hours.
Hackett is a graduate of the
California School of Fine Arts
in San Francisco, He served
as a gallery supervisor for the
San Francisco Museum of Art
for three years during World

Hackett worked for the U.S.
