The IXL Mine of Washington.
Work is progressing favorabl y at
George J, Binder’s IXL mine on Poorman’s creek 24 miles northeast of this
city and six miles from the town ‘ of
Washington. A mill will be erected
in the Spring, and in thé meantime
the preparations for the systematic
working of the ledge are going on.
This claim has quite a history. It was
worked fifteen years ago with an‘araspartners took the bullion and went to
town toconvert it into coin and pay
what bills were owing. Instead of
attending to business, he had “a run
with the boys’? ‘and squandered the
money. After the next clean-up the
other partner said: he would show
partner number one how to doup
business in shape, but he too fell into
the hands of the Philistines.. Trouble
with creditors resulted in the mine being shut down, A tunnel had been
run in 75 feet showing a ledge 15
feet thick and giving 852 feet of backs.
Recently ten tons of ore was worked at
the California mill. The regult was
5 per cent. of sulphurets worth $52 50
per ton and $4 ton in free gold. It
] is estimated the ore will mill $14 a ton,
including sulphurets, and that there
are. 600,000 tons of such ore in the
claim. . Mr. Binder,-who came out
last May from Rochester, New York,
is obiaining a patent to the ground.
He has ample capital to properly » develop its riches. ~~

as the Bartlett pear belt. The association is not a greedy, grasping concern.
It will not inflate prices, but proposes
to sell, for the present at least, its
lands at the prices they were graded
by the railroad company. Some persons will doubtless arise to dispute
this, on the ground that corporations
do not ordinarily possess souls. Nevertheless it is true. The Association being an extensive buyer had concessions made to it by the railroad, and
from that concession the Association
derives its profit. It is not likely that
these or any other lands in the county
