November 1, 1967 Lura Arnold 265-2471 President Thelina Gates of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, is shown at the head of the table pourina during the Silver Tea held last Thursday by Ruth Circle of WSCS in Wesley Hall of the First Methodist Church, Grass Valley. Silver Tea Great Success The tea and musical program, "Ah! Indian Summer" was attended by two hundred and thirty five women of this and surrounding areas, Wesley Hall of the First Methodist Church ofGrass Valley was decorated with beautiful colored leaves and chrysanthemums, The stage setting was a complete fall scene, featuring a wood duck and a pheasant, ’ Mrs, Noel Carden welcomed the guests and presented the following program: Senota Settima by Ruggieri played by Mrs, Dennis Smith and Mr, Bernard Rockwood, violinists, with Mrs. Robert Ross, accompanist; Tea for Two by Vincent Youmans and Indian Love Call by Rudolph Friml, played by Mrs, George Comstock on the saxophone, with Mrs, Grace Porter accompanist; Warsaw Concerto by Addinsell, piano duet by Mrs, Gordon Dick and Mrs, Jim McClain; Victor Herbert's Indian Summer, Edvard Grieg’s Strange Music, Vi/present on ctor Herbert'sItalian StreetSong, R, Rogers' You'll Never Walk Alone, Joseph Kosma's Autumn Leaves, presented by members of the Newcomers Lyric Ensemble and Double Trio. Mrs, Charlotte Faylor was the director; Mrs, Meda Snow, accompanist, Mrs. Thomas Threlkeld, soprano, sang Trees by Oscar Rosbach, and Make Someone Happy, Mrs. Snow, accompanist, Mrs, Roy Nelson thanked those behalf of the Ruth Circle. Mrs, Joab Caswell was general chairman of the event with the following committees: Program, Mrs, K.D, Beatie; Decoration, Mrs, Burris Sweet; Stage, Mrs, Franklin Schoellerman and Mrs, Edwin Koster; Food, Mrs, J.E, Hollingsworth; Program Favors, Mrs, B, Page, Tickets, Mrs, John Weber and Mrs, Joseph Sober. All other members of the Ruth Circle and friends contributed greatly to the success of the tea. Shown are Mrs. Edwin Koster , on the left, who assisted in planning and decorating the stage for the Silver Tea, and Mrs. Joab Caswell, chairman of Ruth Circle who sponsored the Tea held in Wesley Hall, Grass Valley. The new officers will be seated in January. Neva Rebekah Observe Halloween In keeping with the Halloween season, members and guests at the meeting of Neva Rebekah Lodge No. 119, Oct, 24, were dressed as scare crows, Indians, pumpkins, beings from outer space, and even Julius Caesar, The second nomination of officers for the coming year was held during the business session presided over by Noble Grand Jane Elliott, First plans were discussed for annual roll call night to be held Nov, 28, Pearl Rozynski was named as chairman for that evening, The meeting will be preceded by a 6:30 pot luck dinner, District Deputy President Gladys Stokes reported on the visit to Naomi Rebekah Lodge in Truckee Oct, 12, at which time Charlotte Taylor, president

Condon Park's new roofed BarB-Q was the scene of a showery Oct. 21 cook-out for 4-H club Forestry project members, Forty-two members and leaders from Placer. and Nevada Counties' 4-H clubs chopped . brush, blackberries and weeds all afternoon at Woodbridge Metcalf Fir Tree Arboretum. Woodchuckers 4-H club leader, Mrs. Barbara Bertoncini, sounded chow call at 4:30 p.m. as a shower drove some 4-H'ers under the roofed Bar-B-Q. Grass Valley Site Of Esther Rebekah Party Witches, gypsies, ghosts, scarecrows, Indians and various other characters invaded Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 9 when they met last Saturday evening in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall in Grass Valley, The business meeting was presided over by Noble Grand Edna Rudd, The second nomination of officers was held with the election of officers coming up at the next meeting, Nov. 14, The Noble Grand requested that all officers be present at this session, Birthday greetings were extended to Mr. and Mrs, Ed Williford, Several members from Neva Rebekah Lodge including Noble Grand Jane Elliott, were welcomed, A most enjoyable Halloween program, under the direction of Goodfellowship Chairman Evelyn Gemmil, was presented. Readings by Gladys Clemo and Gigi Hershman, little granddaughter of Mrs. Gemmil, and instrumental solo by Ada Arthur, preceded the Halloween parade. After much deliberation, the judges chose four winners: Jane Elliott as a very old witch took the first prize. A scarecrow portrayed by Drew Elliott, came in second, with June Engle, also a witch, third, and Nadine Gustafason, a gypsy, as fourth, Refreshments were served in the dining hall, complete with jack-o-lanterns and fall colored leaves, by Mr, and Mrs, Lorin ~Wasley and Mr, and Mrs, Richard Carlson, Charles Engle and committee will serve at the Nov. 14 meeting.
