Youth wounded while hunting The sheriff's department is investigating the presumed accidental shooting of an 18-year old Nevada City youth while he was quail hunting Sunday in the Greenhorn area, Glenn R. Davis was treated for shotgun pellet wounds at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, according to Undersheriff Frank Gallino, The undersheriff said Davis was hit in the stomach and both legs. The wounded youth and his 15 and 18-year old companions reported that they had seen no other persons or vehicles in the area, Gallino theorized that another hunter fired the shots, but was unaware he had hit a person. Man dies after collision Jack Edward Wood, 57, injured in.a Highway 20 car-van accident early Sunday, died in a Sacramento medical facility early Tuesday morning. His was the fifth traffic death in Nevada county this year, the California Highway Patrol said.
Wood, who worked as a druggist in Reno and whose wife lives at 130-1/2 Townsend St., Grass Valley, was westbound in a car when it reportedly crossed the centerline of the highway and smashed into an eastbound one-ton van hauling two horses about 10 miles east of Nevada City. Richard Knight, 39, of Colusa told the Patrol that he saw the Wood car approaching and then saw a cloud of smoke. The car veered and crossed the highway and into the van, Knight said he tried to turn to the right to excape the oncoming car. Knight was not hurt. His passenger, June Knight, said she _ Would see her own physician. The Patrol said Wood commuted from Reno about twice weekly. He worked for Hales Drug Store. Nevada City Scouts hold honor court Nevada City Boy Scout Troop No. 24 held a Court of Honor earlier this month to recognize scouts who have worked for six months or more to earn merit badges or rank advancement. John Miller was recognized as first scout in the troop to earn the coveted God and Country award, which was a twoyear undertaking. The Rev. Robert S. Meyer, who worked with him, will present the actual award later in a cerémony in the Presbyterian Church, Two scouts, David Goodwill and Bill Hill earned the rank of Star Scout. First class ranks were earned by Steve Davis, Ray Bonnell, and Kit Wiegman, Second class ranks were earned by Tom Watson, Arthur Huber, Mike Hill, Jim Pennington, Dana Van Dyne, and Thomas Jeffress, The boys presented their moth° ers with tiny pins which were replicas of the symbols on their badges.
