BEER ON SEA ‘
In the 17th century, every
sailing ship crossing the Atlan-tic carried casks of beer for
the long voyage as the water
supply became unsafe for drinking. Sterilized beer did not become contaminated and supplied
the necessary liquid for the
length of the voyage.

Cassettes, plastic cases about
the size of a cigaret pack and
half as thick, hold up to 120
minutes of sound, half on each
side. And they offer stereo
listening for all tastes, from
classics to comedy, rock to
pop. For teenagers, new micro
cassettes hold four to six selections of the hottest popular
music, play up to six minutes
a side, and cost less than $2.00.
You don’t have to handle
tape with a cassette; there’s
no-record—to—scrateh.Simply

in the machine, press a button
and there’s music.
Versatile cassette tapes can
be wound back and forth at

makes it possible to record
voice or music.
Monaural, playback-only
units like Ampex’s Micro 1,
decks that plug into hi. fi
systems, and even full recording stereo systems give battery-powered portability or decorator-styled convenience for
the music minded. Prices begin at less than $30.
Since Ampex helped to bring
quality sound into the home
in the 1940s with the first recorders for mastering high
fidelity phonograph records,
tape recorders have become
more convenient to use, more
compact and cheaper. Cassettes and cassette recorder/
players are the now answer
for music on the move for
today’s go go people.
