THEO, A, KOHLER, JR. , County Clerk and Clerk of the Superior Court of the County of Nevada, State of California. By MELBA J, POLGLASE Deputy Published Oct. 19,26, Nov. 2, and 9, 1966 SCAL Broad Street s pan coll-. apse during construction, Granite Construction is booming ahead and bridges are suddenly taking shape along all the freeway route through Nevada City. This turn of events will make the merchants, the Twin Cities communters and the tourists all very happy. The only ones unhappy about the sity2tion are the people who have to man the firelines in our forests. For while the hot dry weather is a boon to the bridge builders, it has createda dangerously explosive fire situation in our forests andnow bridge builders and fire watchers are anxiously scanning the skies each day. * ek OK x TheNevada City asa 3:2a11 convention town theory was again demonstrated last Saturday to the delight of about 50 members of the State Legal Secretaries Association. The group, hosted by the Nevada City Legal Secretaries Association, held a luncheon at the National H ote1 to honor one of their state officers. The women attended the the luncheon, did the antique bit and took a look at the fall color. Then they decided that a luncheon in Nevada City for the state organization should be an annual event. * * * * Two closing campaign shots of interest to area voters were fired this week, First, and of first-rate importance to voters in Nevada County, was the announcement that State Senator John Bego.ch, who represented Amador and El Dorado Countie:, had through his support behind Senator Stephen Teale of Calaveras County. Big John and the surgeon from West Point fought a slam -bang primary battle for the Democratic nomination for the new Third District Senate seat. Last week Begovich wrote to his many triends in his former two county district, "As it can't be me, it must be Steve, and you and I will see that this happens."' Begovich,
although he lost the primary, has a lot oft Switch friends, and he and a lot of other Democrats hope they will getin behind Tealeand put a mountain man in the new Senate seat. The other move, which is really much more of a surprise than the Begovich endorsement of Teale, is the statement by a Republican candidate that he is withdrawing his support of Ronald Reagan. According to William H. Romack, Jr., of El Dorado Hills, Republican candidate forthe Second Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Harold T. "Bizz" Johnson, "innocent voters have been hoodwinked into believing their work and money was going for the support of all Re publican Candidates, when, in fact, most of these funds have $ene into the educational efforts to brainwash the Republican Party even further into the outermost reaches of right wing insanity and total involvement in the Vietnamese Civil War." Pretty strong stuff, but tor most Republicans it'll come too late for most of them have been pretty well brain washed already McCauley Gets Early Promotion Michael F. McCauley, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Dean McCauley, 123 Mill St., Grass Valley, received an early promotion to Army pay grade private E -2 on completion of basic combat training atFt. Dix, N.J., Oct. 12. He was awarded the promotion two months earlier than is customary because of his accuracy in firing the M-14 rifle, high score on the physical combat proficiency test and his military bearing and leadership abilities. The ’new business venture is called Rodgers Frame Shopand Art Gallery. Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers are both professional ski instructors and worked in June Valley before. coming here last August. It's quite a transition from jump turns and stem christies tothe manutacture of beautiful picture trames. It was of interest to me to learn that the best frames are sheared ona machine designed for that purpose. The smooth cut made by the machine insures a fine bond and miter jointso that each corner is square and matched. Mrs. Rodgers is very busy these days witha new baby in the family. They now have three children, Scott, Lorna and Jeffery. The art gallery shows are now in progress through Nov. 30 and the works of many local ar. tists are hung in the galGary Rogers lery. Gary will be pleased to show youhis trame samples and also give a tour of the gallery. Itis a delightful experience to see and to learn of the many items related to this business.
