Sierra College demonstrated overall team strength and depth by burying Shasta College 42-0 at Roseville's Hanson field in an afternoon game last Saturday to close out the 1963 Wolverine football season. A sharp passing attack ripped the game wide open after a scoreSPORTS BS a®r less first quarter, with Cuarterback Ralph Villanueva hitting end Charles Viorel for a50 yard completion to set up the first TD, a three yard completion to wingback Mike Harriman. Viorel then snagged a two-point conversion to make it 8-0. © Three plays later defensive standout Jim Greco pounced on a Shasta fumble and halfback Bob Woodson immediately arched a TDtoss good for 35 yards and six points to Viorel. Villanueva 'stwo point pass was perfect to Bob Thomas. The third and final TD of the first had came on a perfectly executed quarterback option keeper with Villanueva going 19 yards to score. The run conversion attempt failed. Despite the three TDs, Shasta managed the same num ber of first downs as Sierra in the first half, seven, and Coach Homer “Buzz” Ostrom started his first unit. W oodson took the second half kickoff and romped 85 yards for the season's longest TD for Sierra. Villanueva's conversion attempt failed, but with the score at 28-0, Ostrom pulled both his first team offense and his best defensive men and gave the game over to second and third units, ' And the players who saw little action all year kept pushing the outmanned Shastans around, with Quarterback Dan Nelson plunging over from the two to score after 145 pound Frank Luna had ripped through Shasta for.30 yards in two carries to set up the score. Ken Uhl, smallest Sierran at 140 soaking wet, made a 10 yard gain prior to Nelson's plunge. Yet another Sierran got into the scoring when Nelson passed to Mike Dupre Pheasant Season Prospects Good, Game Prospects forthe 1963 pheasant hunting season, which opens Saturday, are the best in years, the California Department of Fish and Game announced this week. With sub backs Mike Woessener, Ted Surratt and Jim Greco seeing action, the W olverines came back to score again with Greco bucking off tackle and going 50 yards for the final Sierra TD. Greco was last week's defensive star of the week for Sierra, but proved he had the power on offense too. The win, only one in conference play this season for the Wolverines, gave the Sierrans a 3-1-5 tecord. The wins came over Shasta, American River JC and Sacramento CC.
