Printing Strike
Phone’ Books And Operators
A San Francisco printing strike
now in its third month is starting
to affect telephone information
service here.
Pacific Telephone Manager G.
O. Hutchins saidthe strike, which
has already delayed the
new Butte, Nevada, Sutter and
Yuba Counties directory, is also
holding up delivery of information records used by on in
this area.
These records, which had been
issued on a daily basis, include
all new tele phone numbers in
Grass Valley and other nearby
communities.
Since the strike began, the firm
which normally prints the records
has been unable to produce daily
lists of new numbers; and the
printing job has been shifted to
another firm.

the phone company has resorted

master list when answering requests from customers.
“This has slowed up the operators considerably in getting information for our customers, ” he
said. We are now using extra
operators, but there is still some
delay. We hope our customers will }
bea¥ With us until the strike can
be settled, andwecanonce again
get backto a normal operation. “
Hutchins said they hoped to
have a new telephone directory
as soon as possible, but he could
give no estimate of when this
would be.
Hutchins explained that the
company had been using a single
